If I read it correctly it is in that general time frame. Do you know what the finish is? It looks like some kind of brass plating.

Old Cosmo line grease hardened like a plating process from age. It was used so they would not rust.

You don't really want those old cruddy things do you? How about I trade you two bright, shiny, brand new Crafstman ratchets for those old junky ones? The new ones are imported...all the way from China. You don't have to thank me. Just trying to help out a fellow member. That's what this place is all about, right? ;)

OK, we used to use Cosmoline where I worked on drive chains for heavy equipment but I never got to see it after it hardened up.
