Nice find ! New Britain Mfg. from the 1930s-1940s, IIRC ?

If I read it correctly it is in that general time frame. Do you know what the finish is? It looks like some kind of brass plating.

Old Cosmo line grease hardened like a plating process from age. It was used so they would not rust.

You don't really want those old cruddy things do you? How about I trade you two bright, shiny, brand new Crafstman ratchets for those old junky ones? OK, we used to use Cosmoline where I worked on drive chains for heavy equipment but I never got to see it after it hardened up.
