Saw an ad on CL for a garage sale last Friday that had an ice fishing hut, which I'm looking for. Got there and was approached by a man telling me how much a radial arm saw was being sold for and I assumed he was the owner. He also told me about buying two Mac rollaways and upper cabinets, along with a boatload of C-Man hand tools for $75. Then the owner came out and told me that the hand tools thrown on the ground on a moving blanket were $0.25 each. As I got to looking at what was there it was obvious she didn't know what she had.

I ended up getting 37 pieces for less than $10, with brands like Mitutoyo, Mac, Cornwell, Williams, etc. Also bought the radial arm saw as I wanted the cart and cabinet it was sitting on. The picture shows how much the saw/cart/cabinet was. The cabinet was made by MBC, Metal Box and Cabinet Company, which I've read is rumored to have made Snap On's boxes at one time. I need to get the date code off of it still.

Using short roll-away boxes as work stations or tool bases is a GREAT idea. You have a built-in place to store all your different blades, wrenches and screwdrivers to adjust the tool and change blades, pencils and paper, tape measures, squares, safety glasses, ear muffs, etc.

I have found that at each of your normally stationary equipment, there are specific tools that you always use with that piece of equipment. It's really nice to have all the needed tools at the piece of equipment, rather than part of your general tool collection in the rollaway across the shop.

GREAT score, by the way... the saw alone is a screaming deal that I'd love to find, but having it with the tool box is too good.

Csp, great find! I've been shopping garage sales for a while and have yet to do as well as you did. The bargain tool sales are few and far between.

I seem to have the opposite luck with tools at garage sales. Women seem to think if something is rusty it must be old and valuable. My garage sale finds this weekend were no steals but good values. I picked up 3 USA made shovels (I am poring concrete soon) and a new in box 36” ceiling fan for a total of $20.
