Finally I have something worthy of a "Garage Sale Haul" post
.
A few days ago I found a post on CL by a Hein-Werner dealer about 10 miles away from me. I've been looking for a decent floor jack for several months so I got in touch with the guy and made an appointment this Sunday to stop by his shop and possibly get a 2-ton model.
Today I had some time in the morning and I decided to visit a couple of garage sales which mentioned tools in the ads. At the very first garage sale I spot an orange floor jack. I'm not knowledgeable enough to tell the make and model from 10 yards away, but as I got closer I saw the distinctive Hein Werner logo. The owner was pretty flexible on the price. I told him that I was going to get a new Hein Werner jack tomorrow and he goes --how about $20 for it. At that price I just couldn't resist. The jack seems to be working and I had no problems lifting the front end of my minivan with it.
I'm going to write a separate post with some questions about the jack. I'm still going to go to the Hein Werner dealer tomorrow to maybe get some accessories or parts for the jack.
After that I went to another garage sale where the guy was trying to empty a 20-foot container full of stuff, including tools. He had some wrenches in good shape made by Bonney, Barcalo, Proto, etc. but not a complete set. I picked out a Starrett tap wrench, Utica pliers, Erem tweezers, Craftsman punch, Crescent diagonal cutters, wire bending jig, some unfamiliar Channellock pliers, and a thread pitch gauge. I was willing to pay about $15 for these tools. When I asked the owner how much he wanted for it, he said $2. I felt like I was stealing at that price, so I gave him $10.
