I've posted a suggestion here a while back with no response from the mods, but figured it might be worth a poll to see if they can be persuaded by the level of interest.

I'm certain that there are many of us outside of North America with items to sell or swap, and hot deals to post. The currently available sections are understandably dominated by Americans, and so active that a single listing by someone in Europe has a snowball's chance in hell of being noticed by anyone in their target market.

Anyhow, this poll is to gauge interest in (initially) a single sub-section under Garage Sale, aimed primarily at users outside of North America to buy/sell/trade, and post links to hot deals.

We've seen reasonable success from the UK Hot Deals thread, with many people participating, and many more benefiting. This is just casting the net a little wider while creating a safe harbour from the deluge of posts from our North American brethren.

I've provided just one voting option -please select it if you're interested in seeing this happen. Comments and suggestions are welcome of course, but I think it's best to start with the basics and ask for enhancements when needed.

Thank you for your time

I would be in for this :)

I only look at the UK Bargain post and don't bother with the other classifieds as I never see any UK ones.

Thanks guys. Let's get (and keep) the ball rolling. I've posted links to this thread in UK Hot Deals and Old World threads. If you have any regular contacts by PM who might be keen, then perhaps a gentle nudge would be well placed. Let's get the word out and show the Mods we deserve this!

The Europeans definitely need a for sale section. Ebay has got beyond a joke.

It would be interesting to know the percentage breakdown of users on this forum and their COO?

Bump.

Any more support?

Do the mods say yea or nea?

Yeah some mod-feedback would be good. Not sure they're even aware of us otherwise :dunno:

And what's up with the two votes for the "ignore this choice" option? :headscrat

Voted.... I have a tool I want to sell that I cannot put on ebay as it's
against ebay policy. This would be great.

A total of 42 votes (45 if you count the guys who voted in the wrong section :headscrat) so far. It'd be great if we could get some feedback from a mod - please!

Why not post in the usual section but point out your location is not in the US ?

I'm sure that's what has been done, but the post gets buried in a few hours. I think most everyone here is saying that they don't even bother looking in the classifieds (nevermind posting) because it's like a needle in a haystack.

The concensus seems to be that it's not worth the time and effort to browse through the (probably) 99% or more of the posts in the classifieds that don't apply. It's a bit like ebay - would you bother if they didn't separate the Aussie stuff out from the the masses of American stuff and you had to scan through looking for "Australia" in the title? Maybe a bad example (as it assumes you use ebay to start with) but hopefully I've made the the point :D

Anyhow, it's brilliant that the classifieds section is as active as it is; We'd just like a chance to expand on that and make it more relevant to a wider range of GJ members. Surely that can only be a good thing?

Are any mods actually reading this? If not, perhaps we can just take over this section :D

This is a mock-up design I pasted as a pic... would something like this work for you blokes?
You would have to fill-out a form and it auto formats the data.
The data would be interactive and allow you to sort by seller, local, or make/model. Compare it to this

hey, no worries. if you couldn't imagine it with the link i provided in my post, then this may not be a good fit for what you're wanting to do.

Sorry - I didn't mean for that to sound ungrateful for the effort- I was just a bit confused aboth what's going on there. I got lost with the pie charts and spreadsheet. Is that part of the forum?

I was just thinking another basic section under Garage Sale would be easiest for members and Admins both, or am I missing something? This looks somewhat complex comparatively.

naw, what i showed is not part of the forum.
I failed to state I'm offering to build a self-sustaining list.
Anyone can fillout a form with 5 or 6 fields and it adds their item to that scrollable list.
No charts or moderators are required.
All items for sale are sortable by column header and fit in one post.

Basically what you are saying is that items for sale added to the list you are trying to set up, could be filtered - e.g by either country or distance: nearest to registered location(like on ebay)?

If that is the case then I am sure it could work and undoubtedly would be appreciated.

Yeah, it would it would be a lot like that and would aim to be as simple as possible for both sellers and buyers.
For the buyers, I would do my best to make sorting optional.. unless i'm totally underestimating the number of sellers outside the USA.

Google has recently made some changes which may slow me down, but i may be able to have a functional solution rebuilt by tomorrow night.
