I only find **** velvet paintings of Bea Author at garage sales mixed in with earth shoes, and mood rings. Nice find. That vintage screwdriver is a great find.

The screwdriver is an HD Smith "Perfect Handle".

They started making the Perfect Handles in 1902 & the company went out of business in 1930, so that's a rough range...

(Awesome deals, by the way..!)

Thanks for the info. It's like an early ergo handle that fits your hand really well! I dont know what I am going to do with it, but for $2 I had to have it.

nice - I never see anything good at garage sales...

I have been doing it for many years, and have made some helluva deals at the yard/garage sales. The trick is to look in the newspaper and on your local Craigslist, and check out only the sales with tools listed. You will hit many small potato tools this way, but every once in a while you get lucky. I have purchased not just tools, but equipment for my shop. I have a couple hundred dollars invested in equipment from yard sales that the new price on is in the $23,000 range. One piece alone that I paid $40 for sells for $16,000 new. Another $20 purchase sells for $4,800. Never have expectations at a garage sale, and you will never be disappointed.

Most welcome.

$2?! I wish I'd seen that HD Smith 660 first!

Papaw just had his re-stored using Purpleheart wood for the scales. It looks quite excellent! Check it out.

That's absolutely amazing.

I wouldn't have known the value of either of those items, but if I somehow inherited them you can be sure I'd find out before trading them for a handful of beans!

Very well done indeed!

anyone have an idea how old the screwdriver is?

I know this is an older post but;
The 660 series screwdriver was late in the HD Smith company history before being gobbled up during the depression. This one is likely from the 1926-29 era. Nice find, great price.
