Garage screen door?

We get mosquitoes really bad here, and also have alot of wind - which results in leaves being blown in the garage constantly. Also, chipmunks will run in the garage if the doors are open.

I really like to work with the garage door open though.. More light, dont feel trapped in that small space, etc..

I was thinking of finding some screen and stapling it to some 1X2s or something similar and just wedging it in the door.

Something that rolls up would probably be much better. Then no worry about where to store some huge screen door when you're not using it.. But I don't think a roll up type door would seal up well enough on the bottom to keep chipmunks, etc out..

Lowes didnt have screen in the size needed for a garage door..but hoping Home Depot will.

Any opinions?

Where are you located? I see them advertised at Menards during the summer. Also usually an ad for them in This Old House mag as well as others.

I bought bulk mosquito netting for a project at our local Army surplus for a project here, 8ft? wide on a roll. You could easily sew up a bigger one.

Thanks for the offer..But Im too far away, and it would probably not be worth shipping. Perhaps another member closer by will take you up on that offer.

Thanks

I've got a Kitty Mac on my 7' x 16' door and LOVE it. It's been on there for three years and still looks like new! Also, the manufacturer really gives great customer service and stands behind his product.

If you are still a dealer for them, would you consider a group buy for us? Might it be possible to have the company drop ship them? thanks Junk

Someone beat me to it. I was going to say that Kitty Mac makes those Fresh Air screens and they are very nice. Lowe's also has access to ordering them. There is another company that Lowe's deals with on those screens too but I can't remember the name off hand. I think it may be Larson as they deal with Larson storm doors.

Yea..I see lowes has them. Looks like around $125 for a standard 9X7.

I'm a cheapskate..so might be more than I'm looking to spend.

What kind of ballpark price would we each be paying with a group buy?
Thanks

Tom I know I have posted this once in this thread already but just for you cause I am a nice guy 9X7 $19.95. This is the same screen I have I got from Harbor Freight and it has been u[ a year with no problems . I dont see any reason to spend $125.00 for a garage screen when I could get 6 of them for the same price.

Rick

Sorry about that.. Didn't notice the price in the link. That's more my price range

I wonder if something could be fixed at the bottom hold it somewhat securely? (to keep the wind from just whipping it all over the or small critters from getting in)

But that's nothing I can't figure out/jury rig once I get it in place.

Oh and this one at HF is $139: http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=65993

Holy cow their proud of that one . I just asked SWMBO and she says ours was on sale for like $10.00 . The one I have had metal pipes in the bottom of it and small velcro tabs for the sides . I replaced the short sections of pipe with 1/2" conduit the original pipes were a little over a foot long and 8 or 9 per section and mine by the way fits my 16X7 door .

Hi Richard here I think we are headed down the " Snap on price is way to high compared to HF whatever's thingamagig".I just wanted to move the last garage door screen I had then other folks asked about a group buy.If they want a Kitty Mac brand I will try to get a great price for everyone, but I am a tight wad just like 50% on here so if you don't want to spend the money that's fine.I'm just trying to help out the members who want(brand name) one.I for one like the many, many different opinions on the board.I think it helps to make an informed choice.I have been helped alot from the GJ and wanted to return the favor.:lol_hitti

Since there has been such a marginal response to the group buy on the GARAGE DOOR SCREENS,I will call Marvin at Kitty Mac on Mon. and get a discount price list to post.
PM me if you want to find out more about them.
