Isn't that going to be a bad idea to have a flat face on the side of the house for water run off. I'm no carpenter just so.ething I thought about when I saw this.

looks great, I am look into doing one myself. one question is do you not get a lot of snow? I just see an ice dam and leaks at the roof line. around here we would typically run the new roof over with valleys on either side.
Nice job and enjoy.

It was my only option. Inspector would not allow a hip roof because the I could not prove the old patio had cement columns below the frost line. The gutter is still there and the siding is marine plywood covered with tar paper and then cedar shingles on top. It is flashed and caulked for water to run into gutter. I am concerned with snow so I will keep and eye on it and have a snow roof rake. I also have an GFCI outlet ready for a roof heating cable if necessary. I will lobby again in a years or two when I put a new roof on the house for the inspector to allow for a hip roof connection. By then the porch will prove to be solid on the slab.

I was finally able to get a new inspector to allow the porch roof to hook to the garage while re-roofing whole house.

That looks great. I like your choice in finishes as well. I'm looking to put one on the back of my house, but it isn't garage related.
