Hi all I have an ADT system in my main house. My garage is a three car garage that the previous owners ever alarmed! I really do not plan to keep anything of too much value in there (other than the daily drivers). Does anyone know if there is a motion detector that I could install myself to at least have something out there! My ADT guy wants to sell us a whole system and says he can't use my existing system to add on because it is not compatable to my current ADT system? The system is only 5 years old?

Help!!!!

Post pics of the main control box with the door open and a pic of the keypad and I can probably answer the question for you.

The "ADT Guy" is probably a licensee of ADT working for I SCREW SUBSCRIBERS a division of U Ben Skrewed. He is also full of **** unless every zone in your current system is used.

Even if every zone is used, you could add the garage to one of the existing zones.

Well ended up launching him tonight! After 2 1/2 hours of total BS,and having him trying to sell me a new system. I called a friend who had the same problems with them, when he moved into his new house. His alarm company will be at my house in the AM and get the ADT **** out, so I can add an alarm system for the garage. Its a shame that just to add security for my garage was such a hassel but so it goes?
Thanks all for the help!!!!

Why the hell are you scrapping a perfectly good system to add a 15 dollar PIR in the garage?

Since the system was attached to your real property when you bought the house, it is your equipment. ADT will back down real fast on pulling equipment when they hear that.

Anybody who can't reprogram ADT's control is completely stupid and shouldn't be in the alarm business.

BTW, the cost of "Monitoring" ranges between 2 bucks and 8 bucks a month wholesale, so drive a hard bargain.

After a night time break in (while I was home) I built a homemade motion detector set up that rang a small buzzer beside my bed that let me know someone had entered the motion detector zone outside of my garage. One week later it worked perfect and I caugtht the thieves coming back for more easy pickins. This time they left with nothing .I didnt have a gun,BUT DO NOW. My advice is keep it simple but make sure it works every time. Even those wireless motion detectors from Harbor freight will serve the purpose if you keep good batteries in them . cost about 20 bucks. I found outside lights and security signs do very little to keep thieves away.:)
