Garage security?

So I rent a garage that I was sharing with someone. They are no longer as I found they left the roll up garage door open all night 2x. I was wondering if there is a universal remote to put on the door that I can open or close the door by a app on my phone? Also is there a camera that I can setup and view from my phone to see if the door was open or check on the shop? I do not have internet there but can access WiFi. I need to keep it cheap if possible which is alot to ask for what I want to do. Thanks

I am a little confused, please clarify this for me if you would. You say you were renting a garage with someone, but they left the garage door open on two occasions. Because of this you said "they are no longer" which I would take to mean you no longer have them as co-renters. If that is the case and you no longer have them as co-renters, why do you need to be able to check on the garage by "remote control" to be sure it is locked up? Surely you will close the door and lock up when you leave.

Not that I know of for a roll up door. Normal garage door maybe.
There are plenty of stand alone cams that connect to WiFi if you have the password. Even a ring doorbell would do it and give you an alert if movement

You say you don't have internet but can access wifi. I don't get it. wifi is usually internet access. Things would be a lot simpler if you can access the internet through wired or wireless means.

Is this really a roll up door or a more traditional door with panels? Does it have an opener?
If it has an opener there are ways to remotely control the door, maybe requiring a new opener. Also, as been mentioned, apps to view the area. But they require internet.

If you have WiFi access, you can easily integrate a WiFi camera and monitor remotely. However, as someone has already mentioned, how do you have WiFi, but no internet access?

I have a Chamberlain residential garage door opener that is connected to wifi. Using the myQ app on my phone I can open/close the door as well as see the current status of the door and view the opening history.

I'm not sure if there is something similar for roll up door openers but the technology certainly exists and was simple to set up.

If the garage has access to WIFI, you can buy a very cheap WIFI camera for under $40.00 to monitor things in the garage. You will need the security code for the WIFI in order to use a camera.

Also, there are garage door openers that give you the ability to open and close the door via your smart phone. You would have to buy one of the openers that has that feature, and replace the old one you have now. Then you can control the garage door from anywhere you are.

I have the Chamberlain openers with the MyQ app at 3 different locations. I get a notification when any of them are opened, and can close the remotely. Works great.
But I can also look at cameras,I just don't get a notification from my cameras like I do with the opener.

Thats about all you can do besides padlock it yourself.

Thanks guys. I seen the Genie 39279R Aladdin online, does anyone have this unit? Any others I should check out?

As for the camera I have no clue what I should look for, can anyone post a link to show me what to look for?

Thank you

Nexx Garage. As long as its compatible with that opener, the wifi connection might work. Plus you can take the device with you when you leave. No permanent install.

...there are devices out there that will automatically close the door after a programmable amount of time.
