I've chosen not to wire the new house for an alarm system but the garage is detached and the door is facing to an alley (street) behind the home.

I'm thinking I need something to secure the garage what with the garage door at the back of the lot.

Anyone using a security system that can easily installed and alert me in the home of any intrusion? :willy_nil

How many openings? Doors, windows etc.? Just put contact switches on anything that opens and tie them into an alarm and internal siren. A good motion sensing light on the alley side will probably be the best deterent of all.

I have two motion sensor lights at the back of the garage (also faces alleyway)... however, it is wired into the main house alarm.

If you have windows, or doors with glass, you can get heavy expanding grates called Burglar bars, I installed them in my remote garage, 6 windows and double entry door windows. I ordered them through an outfit in Canada called are you ready, Mr. Goodbar or try www.goodbar.ca I think about $100/window
Lots of options there, but you can open the windows, and its still secure, I also have a raelly mean reptile called Minzila that I turn loose in there just in case anyone cuts their way in :)

There's some easy possible soultions.

Yep. for quick easy installation that just makes a lot of noise, they have good solutions.

If the two buildings are on the same power feed, you can have something triggered in the house when something happens in the garage.

I have an old garage door that didn't lock, but it's metal, so it's verysolid. I ended up just using the vise grip welding clamps (the big square looking ones) on both sides of the door rail right before the rollers.

If you put motion lights up a thief can unscrew the bulb in the daytime if it is in an area where they cannot be seen that well. Put a motion light inside the garage. That way they do not know if the light is turned on by a homeowner or not. Use a garage door opener on the garage. That way it will not open unless the button is pushed. Also any outside security lights should be up, out of reach, and BB gun proof.

A friend of mine ,had a big old shaggy cat , he loved to jump on your back when you come in the garage. A couple nites he heard a commotion from his garage. Nothing was missing. That would get your attention. If you were a thief.

My sister just installed Ring floodlights. She gets instant notifications on the app in her phone and can review a bunch of past alerts stored on-line or real-time view. I'm thinking of going with Ring myself. They have several flood light models, battery operated, corded and a hardwire version. Their service runs $3 month for one unit, or $10 month for as many as you buy.

Are you wanting to do this with no monthly payment?

Simplisafe would be perfect if you could have it email you without having to pay a monthly payment. I just installed it and Im just using it as a standalone system, but it wont email me. For now I just want to know if someone breaks in while I'm asleep.

A harbor freight driveway sensor is a cheap 10 minute starting point. Battery operated and transmits 400 feet. Just place the sensor inside pointed at the door, and place the receiving unit next to your bed. The receiving unit has a low or high tone setting. They can be placed in various places to warn of wrongdoing. Use your imagination. Just keep away from moving vegetation and animal travel paths. I have several of them in use. I use one on my driveway entrance with the receiver in my shop to let me know if someone drives in while I am in the shop with the doors shut. They send out 3 tones for each movement detected. Cheap, fast security. $10 on sale.

I installed new alarm system from Union Alarm, it is one of the best alarm companies calgary. They install alarm systems from world class companies including Interlogix, Honeywell, and DSC Alarms. Luckily they have affordable prices. Now I can be calm that my car is in safe.

And yet the thread is still going. I have motion lights installed, but now I'm concerned to get a dog. There's nothing valuable in my garage and you can't start my ol' Chevy easily, but still breaking and entering is not pleasant.

Not everyone wants a dog or any animal.

We like jumping on the motorcycle at a moment's notice and leave for the weekend.

You can take your animal with you. I like cars because you can have a rest there and also take friends with you plus it defend you from the rain and a lot of other things (including your safety).:thumbup:

So nobody should ride motorcycle's because you like cars and think motorcycle's are unsafe?

We like motorcycle because we like riding motorcycles. We are not fair weather riders either.
