Garage shelf height

I recently moved into a townhome with only a one car garage. I need to install shelving but I would also like to park my car in there. My wife and I are short so we could easily walk under them but is there a correct height that is good for someone who is 6 feet tall.
They will be 2 ft wide I'm thinking and they will mostly be used for plastic containers. If you have a link or opinion I would greatly appreciated.

I'd say this comes down to personal preference, what you'll be storing, how often you'll access it, space available, and the existing framing.

I am not sure there is a "right height" but I have 2 high cube 40' sea cans for storage that use 24" wide shelfing I get from Costco. I leave the bottom to put really have totes (also Costco) and heavy equipment to sit on floor, 3 more shelves just more than tote height with totes on 2nd and 3rd level and light stuff on top. Keep step ladder for access to that. We also stack totes, but when you are storing things to which you need access stacking doesn't work that well.

I’m 6’ and would try to keep the bottom of it at least 6’6” so I wouldn’t have to worry about my head hitting it. I say try because the height of your ceiling, car door height, garage door track placement, man door location, walking path and height of your bins all should play a factor too.

Use all the height, and wall, that you can.
My garage ceiling is about 11 feet and I use every inch.
In this picture you can see where the lower three shelves have been trimmed to allow full opening of our van‘s front door.
I’m 6’2” and can walk under the fourth shelf.

Not ideal but it works. I’m dealing here with an AZ tract house and the builders are dumbasses when it comes to garages. Work with what you have.

Tha makes sense. I like the way you did around the garage door rail. Thank you maybe I'll use that type of wall system.
Thanks!

I have 2 rows, 1st is at about 7.5ft and second row at about 10.5ft.

I put stuff up don't use often as I need a ladder to get to it.

You could also consider building shelves in the front of the car, just raised enough so the car hood goes under. That will give you a bunch of space.
