Looking for steel shelving for my pole barn, Used and cheep.
Already checked out Bargaintraderonline and craigslist.
Are there any other web sites like these where I can search local adds.
Thanks, AL

Try local auctions in your area. I've seen nice beefy pallet shelving for sale at auctions. Most people don't bid on it since the stuff is heavy and you need a barn or a warehouse to use it.

If you live near a big city, there will be a industrial dealer specializing in new and used warehouse shelving.

Depending on how big you want it, keep an eye open for shops going out of business.
When a candle store went out of business at the mall, I got all of their store room shelving for $80: It's the heavy-duty knock-together shelves with the 1/2-inch wood shelves. 4-feet long, 18-inches deep, and 7feet tall. I got five of those, and three that were three feet long, all for $80.

I also have a pallet rack in my shop that came from an industrial auction. that one is 10 feet tall and 12 feet long. It replaced the candle shop shelves, which are now in the basement, garage, storage closet in the shop and one in the shop holding power tools and misc.

Just realized you're from NJ. I know of a place that should have the shelving I talked about. Kinda near Jackson. Let me know if interested.

I stumbled across a good bit of pallet racking at the local steel scrapyard. They just sell it for .20/lb, it's just steel to them. Unfortunately what I found was the teardrop style while what I already use is the ridge style. Incompatible, bummer! Otherwise I source it from a used material handling place in Denver, but the prices are way higher. In Jersey you gotta be near such a place, there's a lot more industry out that way.

Id you're not in immediate hurry...
Lowe's & HD redo their garden ctr racks every 3rd yr., by law supposedly.
This stuff ends up in local scrap yards who then resell to gen. public. Try your scrap yards. They've generally still got uprights even after all the cross bars are gone. I missed out 2yrs ago, so I'm waiting for my next chance for cheap Heavy Duty racks for engine storage. Remember, these racks are 16' so you need to figure what you actually need after cutting the excess off. I even intend to weld the drops together for more uprights.

Check out kijiji.com, I always check them before anything else. It's kind of like craigslist, free, but more organized.

Will do thanks. Right now I am looking at a setup that is for sale from a local vendor that sells new and used. It is a used set of 4 shelves.

10' tall 8' wide 4' deep.

Yeah the pallet seller.

Matt has an older bmw. I think he mentioned you when he bought a heater part. I mentioned you and the woodwork around your windows a while back.

Thanks for the heads up Supercoupe. Funny you mention that stores are selling their racks. I just ran into a sale at the local circuit city. The only problem that I see is that their racks look like they are 5 or more feet too tall for my garage. This is going to be sweet. I can't wait to gain some additional space.

Ah, ok. Yea, that pallet rack info may be dated at this point (~3 years old...lol), but IIRC here's where I saw it:

(can't locate it exactly)

Monmouth Road on the way to Jackson, NJ.

Oh yea, I know Matt. Been selling a lot of stuff lately. Hard to keep things straight.... :)
