I was the victim of a fire last week and my shop caught fire. It is/was a steel framed building with steel cladding, the insulation in the walls caught fire (due to an overheated woodstove) and the fire damaged the structure to a point that some of the tubing failed.
If I am able to replace, I want to build a 3+ car garage that will suit the house better. My shop was very industrial looking and served a purpose when I was racing, but now has a lot of unused space.
I did a search on here but didn't find what I was looking for, does anyone have or can anyone direct me to a site that has plans? I'm looking again for a 3+, with 12/12 pitch roof to compliment the house.

I won't say there are no websites with good garage plans, but I never found one. The free stuff is kind of crappy and the items that do look good usually aren't free.

Suggest you spend a few hours cruising through the Garage Gallery section of this forum and check out what others have built. It should give you a lot of ideas and, if you find something that is close to what you want, maybe contact that member for more specifics.

And, as bczygan suggests, a pic of your house that you're trying to match might generate more responses.

Here is a test with the photos, I can't figure out how to rotate them.
The first is the house, the garage also has an 1100 sqft apartment for the MIL.
The second pic is the wall of the shop that faces the house, if you were looking west from the garage doors, that is what you would see. The shop is approximately 100' to the west of the house.
I am hoping to build a new 3+ garage, similar in design to the existing garage, in between the existing garage and shop.
I do have an option of repairing the shop, but thought it would be better to build something that matches or compliments the house instead of the commercial style building that the shop is.
I built all of this 15 yrs ago, and think that something a little smaller and matching to the house would help with re-sale value down the road. We did have the house for sale a couple of years ago and the shop was the problem, nobody knew what to do with it.
Anyway, I have been looking at the Garage Gallery and just thought I would post the pics to give everyone an idea of what I'm after.

Bomber.....Very sorry to hear about your loss. Hopefully you had adequate insurance to cover everything.

As far as garage plans, you can go to www.carterlumber.com and get some ballpark prices on package deals in either conventional framing, or pole barn framing.

Then there is this site.... http://www.deplans.com/plans/ Scroll down on the left hand side to where you see Download Garden Shed Plans, and you can input the size you want and get a material list.

If you are doing it yourself, then that would come in useful along with Carter Lumbers package or custom plans. If you don't plan on doing it yourself, and you are insured, get in touch with a couple contractors and see what it would cost to replace what you have.

AND....if someone else builds it, tell them you want all of the scrap metal from the building, or have them renegotiate the price the price because the metal will bring some money from a scrapyard. Don't let them ******** you as they are doing you a favor, because they will take it their selves to a scrapyard and get a few hundred for the metal.

And again, I'm very sorry to hear about your building. Hopefully no one, or no animal, was hurt when it happened. A structure can be replaced, but a life can't

Wow, sorry about your shop. What did you race?

I would nose around and see if anyone local does buildings like you want. You can always talk to an architect too, not sure how much money you are looking to spend for plans (i.e. totally free, or are willing to spend a little).

I think a shop that compliments the house is always a good idea, albeit more expensive in most cases. Better for resale, keeps the neighbors (if you have them...) happy, etc. I think it is important to be considerate of your surroundings for your own benefit and also that of others.

OK.

First of all, you won't find plans anywhere that will fit your situation.

What you need is a consult with a designer that can go back and forth with you until he understands what your needs are, what the existing conditions are and what the budget is.

He or she can then look at your site and properly draw up drawings that you will need for permits and construction.

Sounds like you want to match the existing construction.

Are you going to want any spaces that are taller than the existing garages?

Are you going to demolish the existing shop?

What is the exact layout of your site and the buildings on it?

Will the governing authority allow the type of structure you are proposing?

Why do you want to locate it between the existing shop and existing MIL/garage? Why not use the existing shop slab and foundation?

Lots of questions need to be asked and answered and lots more information is needed in order to get to where you need and want to go.

A set of plans out of a book or off the net won't get you there.

Think of something that looks almost like the garage you have.
If I understood the photo?
Mirror images are appealing to potential buyers.
My neighbor out back of me his is like that, like you said a little closer to the main house.
Maybe share the driveway and parking pad is your plan?
