My shop is about 250 feet from the house. I do have a 3/4" conduit from the house to the shop that I can use for the cable but will the signal make the trip out there?
We have Direct TV.
Thanks in advance for the help.

You can use RG-6 cable and test the picture at the shop. If not good enough, then put a line amp on the line before it leaves the house. Or spend about $250 on RG-11 cable to run to the shop.

Do what I did,We have direct tv and I didn't want to run the cable underground,I bought an extra dish off craigslist and mounted on my roof and set it up,As long as you have the receiver it won't cost any extra,I use the one for my motorhome all winter in the garage

I would install a separate Directv 18" round dish at the shop but I have two or three extra dishes laying around. Since HD dishes have come out you should be able to find a round one cheap or free.

You should be fine, use quality rg6 and *compression* fittings NOT crimp. This is assuming you have a newer installation with SWM (single wire multiswitch) if not call DTV and ask for an upgrade to the new system.

http://www.swm8.com/swm-faq.php

This is a quote from them:
How close do the receivers have to be to the SWM?

If you are connecting only one or two receivers to a SWM port (using no splitter or a 1x2 splitter), each can be as far as 300’ away from the SWM. If you are using a 1x4 splitter, the maximum distance is 250’. If you are using a 1x8 splitter, the maximum distance is 200’. Note that results may vary based on many factors, including the type/quality of cable you are using, and if you find that you are not getting a signal or that you are missing transponders or having other problems with particularly long runs, you might require additional equipment (such as an amplifier).
