I picked this up off Craigslist and it needs a little love. If anyone can advise as to how to repair plastic it would be appreciated. It is a great sign that will be awesome once I give it a little love.

There's not much you can do with that other than glue it, but any repair will show up. What about trying the stuff they advertise on TV that cure with UV light, but wipes off of plastic before you cure it?

I'd use fiberglass/bondo, Glue a piece of tin or something from the inside of the hole with epoxy then fill the depression with fiberglass and smooth it all nice with bondo. You can hide that so it's barely noticeable. The corner I'd epoxy and bondo.

Over here....
There is a new TV commercial touting a new plastic resin kit that is cured using UV light. Maybe now is the time to test it out?

Dayum. Kevin beat me!

On the cracks drill a hole on the end to stop the crack. Personally I would just hang it and leave it be. Any repair will stick out like a sore thumb.

I believe the material is cellulose, Ive had a few of those signs, if it were my sign and I wanted to restore it/preserve whats left I would fill it in from the backside, make it solid, ( not sure of the size ) and make my repairs with panel bond, finish off nice and paint.

Alot of work and prob. more than you would want to get involved with.

Thank you everyone for the input. It's 4' by 6' and I bought it as a winter project. So far I have ordered everything mentioned from Amazon so I plan on restoring/preserving as much as possible. Can yo explain what panel bond method you are talking about.

Hello from NJ. The winter has been more mild than expected but I still had some indoor time to work on my sign. I listened to all the advise here and went about repairing the sign. I used bondo and a metal screen for the hole in the center and was able to source very close letters for the masking of the red. All and all it is coming along well. I now have an overspray issue that I am going to have t contend with so any advise is appreciated. I'll post a picture in the spring when its on the wall..

Since the sign is fixed, I have an off the topic question....What is the "the new GG app" that you mentioned? I subscribe to several forums, and have no trouble posting photos to all of them, but I cant master that on the Garage Journal.

Unless you spend a LOT of money for the commercial version of UV cured glues, they are just short of worthless.,I've tried a few different brands and none of them actually bond anything. They're more like a sealant.

I was lucky to have a friendly dentist who let his lab technician join two pieces of a trim piece for an old MB for me. He used a UV hardening glue and then polished the entire piece with crocus paste.
Undetectable .
