I would try again to figure out the addition idea over the detached idea. You could put a second bay beside the existing & then ad on a deep double behind that. You could end up with 4 full bays with work space behind them along the back wall. It would give you way more garage & with your roof lines you would have a way larger storage space above!
I like the idea of being able to have the boat hooked up in the garage when you want it.

I know what your saying but the contractor is saying its not a good idea. If he's not comfortable doing, then I kind of have my hands tied. He really knows his stuff and just did 8 months of work for me, so I trust his judgement.
I also do not have the stud height on the current attached garage high enough to be able to clear my boat. My boat stays at the lake for most of the summer, so I just need a place to bring it inside in spring and fall to prep for use and off season storage.
Lastly, I would prefer a detached building b/c my wife and I just had a baby and I need a place I can go and be loud and do guy things and not disturb the baby.
