I think you will find that your code requires a sloped floor or a stepdown from the door to the living area to prevent any gas or other toxic fluids from getting into the house. If your garage is detached, a slope is generally not required but a good idea anyway if you are in an area where it snows or if you put your car in the garage after driving in the rain.
