Let me know if there's a thread dedicated to this (probably common) topic but am in the process of insulating and drywalling our 2.5 car garage so looking at steel cabinets, primarily for workbench area, but also for basic storage.

Been looking mostly at SaberCabinets.com and CarGuyGarage.com. Budget is in $1-2K range for about 5-7 cabinets.

Any recommendations/reviews on those or other cabinet brands?

Thanks in advance!

I've also been happy with Lista - they aren't cheap, but IMO, you get a lot for your money when it comes to their quality.

Thanks for all the feedback, but unless someone can talk me out of it will probably go with Saber Cabinets.

The Sabers are about 19 gauge steel which is significantly thicker/heavier than typical consumer metal cabinets (typically around 22-24 gauge).

I am sure the Lista's are better (thicker) than that but I would only be able to get one cabinet on my budget!

Curious neither Seville or Lista spec'd the metal gauge they use; least not that I could find on their websites.

We don't have Sam's club here but think Costo is equivalent. And Seville didn't really have the size/options I was looking for in lower cabs or else I would look at them more closely.

Again thanks for the input!

I recently got Newage cabinets (18 gauge) and I'm pretty happy with them. They sell through Costco.

Now those look interesting! Comparable in price (a bit more) than saber but heavier gauge and they're full wielded! Have to look into these...

I like the NewAge but from what ive read the NewAge can't be wall mounted like the Sabers. For that reason alone I think I'll be getting the Sabers. Plus I can pick then up in Reno and save shipping.

try the search function. i like saber. the welded part is not as important as the wall mount, which i wish i took better advantage of. also new age does not have same storage capacity -- there used to be a handy chart on capacity -- can't find it now

I have the Seville cabinets from Sams Club. I purchased 3 of the wall cabinets, one rolling workbench, and two of the stand-up wardrobe style. I have been very pleased with the build quality and final results. The units must be assembled. This may be a drawback to some, but not to me. I was pleased with the threadserts they used to have threads in the sheet metal and not self-tapping screws. I am planning on a couple of more as the funds allow.

I don't understand this or where it comes from. I read this before. I just installed a set of Newage cabinets and am in the process of installing two more sets. The cabinets have screw holes in the back and we drilled them right onto the studs in the wall. Doesn't all the literature show them wall mounted?

I recently installed some NewAge cabinets. As mentioned, they're available through Costco, but a number of online retailers carry them, and most offer "package deals". I got most of mine through GarageAppeal.com ... I called and they offered a deal where if I ordered at least 3K worth of cabinets based on the "ala carte" price, they'd give a 20% discount. Shipping was included, and with no tax for my state (FL) that worked out to be the best deal.

Everything arrived on pallets in pretty good shape. There were some flaws, but nothing really significant. Probably the biggest issue was with one of the tall cabinets, which had some misalignment with the doors. Upon inspection, it appeared the whole cabinet was slightly out of true. Rather than sending it back, however, I installed it, bolted the back of it it to the block wall (according to instructions), and then "trued" it up by tightening one of the front adjustable feet down against the floor. That seemed to do the trick.

To the wall mount question, the wall cabinets mount to the walls (obvious, I guess), but the tall and floor cabinets have adjustable feet. The tall cabinets fasten to the wall to prevent tipping, but still need the feet for support.

Attached are a couple of photos. There is some distortion in these photos (sorry!) making some angles look funky, but trust me that the cabinets line up properly and look good. These are the "pro" series 18-gauge cabinets in the "taupe" color.

Another minor note...most of these (except one tall cabinet) came with locks. I think those were from old stock, as I don't believe any of the NewAge cabinets currently have locks, except for the tool drawer cabinet. Based on a spot check, all of the keys work in all of the locks...so not much security there anyway.
