Garage Storage/Oranization Options

I have a 28x36 Shop with 14' ceilings. I have a 2-post lift to do work on my vehicles, so floor space is at a premium. But I have tons of wall space and am looking for options to store stuff high on the walls.

I am thinking about mounting the Rubbermaid track system up high and then build a rolling ladder rail around the shop to access stuff. (similar to old libraries)

thanks, for you input...

George

I'm a big fan of built-in soffets with sliding doors to hide stuff and keep it clean (versus open shelves). There are several good threads on here where this was done with great results. Just wished I found this place before I had started on my garage.

Here are a couple of my favorite examples of nicely done soffit storage -

There are several ways to go about it as 28HopUp's links show.

If you want the "clean-as-a-surgical-suite" look, and have the budget to do it, go for it. I admire that look but went another way. Jack Olsen's garage (the first link above) is a good example. Jack initially wanted to get his garage straightened up with a modest budget while re-purposing a lot of stuff he already had. He put on his thinking cap and made some careful purchases overtime and it evolved into what you see on the link.

I am in the process of following that approach but don't have the creativity Jack has. I just like a garage that looks neat/organized but also looks like it gets used....AND I want to keep the costs low.

Pardon the crappy cell phone pic's, this is still in process but I painted cabinets I already had w/ ordinary house paint I already had. I mixed a bunch of leftovers into the lt. yellow...because I already had it. I put wooden sides on an exposed organization system I bought from Costco (to keep dust & mice out).

I grouped related things together as my "clean up corner" shows:

Just research here a LOT, and you'll find a "look" you like. Oh, and POST PICTURES! We like pictures. Best of luck and WELCOME!, Dan
