First off i'll say...im trying not to break the bank here...but i'll also say id rather spend a bit more to get what i want...rather than spend less and end up mad!

If i can stay at 1k or under and get everything i want id be happy.

Im honestly eyeballing the Craftsman Platinum set up: http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00915341000P?keyword=00915341&sLevel=0&prop17=00915341

Click the "Videos & Demos" link and you'll see

I was figuring about 3 wall cabinets, a work bench, roller tool box and one of the "tall" cabinets.

Open to other options as well...one thing i really like about these cabinets is the door shelving ...i think its pretty cool honestly and i can see how i could end up putting a fair amount of things in them.

Thanks all for suggestions!

I have one of those big floor cabinets, and I too have detailing supplies in mine.

Seemed to be typical Sears, I brought mine home from Sears in the trailer. While at Sears, I asked the guy that brought it out if it was okay. I got the typical blow-off response.

When I arrived home and cut the box off (while still in the trailer) one door fell off. I called the store and was told I got the last one.

I found one at another store by calling around. When I arrived at the store...they refused to take the damaged one in exchange for a new one. The manager said something about the bad unit going against his inventory or something that made no sense to me since it was a Sears store..just like where I bought it.

After more phone calls, yet another store agreed to swap it out. An amazingly ridiculous project to make a simple exchange of something that truly wasn't my fault.

Back to the cabinet. I really like it. Cans fit on the door shelves..although it didn't come with enough of the bungies to help hold the cans in place.

I hate to say it but sears/craftsman has really gone down in recent years. I'm only 27 but i can remember being a kid and craftsman was like...THE thing to have for my dad...i still like a lot of their stuff but...a lot of it is definitely not built like it SHOULD be....and customer services...yeah...those guys need a swift kick in the ***.

I appreciate the feedback though. Any idea as to if the work bench with the backing has to be against a wall or can it be free standing in the middle of an area (just wondering if the backing would be wobbly or not)?

Thanks for the reply...do you happen to have a link to the one(s) you bought? I'd love to see them

I'm still learning about the Ikea stuff too, but looks interesting. Here is just one of many ideas that I've seen/found.

Transformation video:

Link to Ikea: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/search/?query=APPLÅD

Here's another one I like (prefer grey to white) but not sure the specific cabinet model or where to get the stainless top.

Avoid Ikea. Their cabinets are all knockdown particleboard junk. Slightly better than the knockdown particleboard junk you find at any other big box store. It might look nice but if it ever gets wet or actually gets abused it falls apart. If you want something that looks nice and wont see any moisture or hard use by all means go ikea.

Thanks for the heads up. I wasn't aware. We don't even have a store here to look at it in-person. I'm not saying I'm Mr. Fix It, but when I use my stuff I like to know I can beat on it w/o failure. It's a garage! It looks like it would be easy to make my own version. I think I will try that.

Just discussing this tonight with the help wife. We are moving soon to a new home with a huge garage yea for me and she said she had been eyeballing some cabinets that Costco sells. They are the New Age brand and we got a flyer saying they had a 7 piece set for $500 off making it $1199 until Sept. 1. Gonna have to look into that one for sure. They will be on sale Aug. 8th until Sept. 1

Lol no problem...i love detailing so i'll talk about it anytime :).

The heat does play a roll...it does help that we use our products constantly, so they are always being shaken up etc...some will separate but most will come back together with a good shake for a minute or so. Ive never had anything recently that actually had to be thrown away due to the heat...but again, we use it constantly. The sun did bleach the color from a couple of our chemicals (megs degrease and wheel brightener) but it didn't effect their capability at all.

Bout the only bad thing ive had happen is a couple spray bottles started to leak on me..but they were over a year old...so that wasnt too big of a surprise :)

Can't beat Costco sale price, they buy by the container load. Check out our store. We're having a build your own custom cabinet set sale on NewAge Cabinets.

The Costco 7-pc set got my attention, but these aren't the 18 ga. units I've seen discussed. How do these compare with the Gladiator units that Lowes used to carry?

Check out used office furniture places. My guess is for about the sam price you could either get some nice lateral file cabinets or a vertical cabinet like the one in the sears link. They would be much better quality. Here was a place i found in a quick google search.

I have found over the years that wooden or plastic shelving is a better choice for my detailing chemicals than metal. I always end up with a drop here or spill there and the metal shelving doesn't react as nicely to the chemicals as the other surfaces do. Especially things like degreaser, body solvent, APC and wheel cleaners.

I have a couple of coleman wooden cabinets with laminate shelving and a couple of plastic cabinets that have served me well the last 7+ years.

This is a shot of one of them from 2006
