I’m tired of the clutter and was hoping for some ideas. Met with salesman from Garage Tek, impressive organization but price was obscene. Any suggestions on slat wall providers, cabinets, overhead storage? I see gladiator mentioned, but COVID has delayed shipments for months. Ideas?

I have ProSlat walls.
I was against them until I broke down and got them. So easy to move things around.

I got the first 4x8 panels on sale for HD for $100 each. I just got two more from Amazon for $115 each.
Amazon usually has them on sale. I look through Amazon Warehouse for the hooks.

I used Proslat's brushed aluminum slatwall. It's pricey at $400 shipped per 4'x8' section, but there's no worry about moisture, mold, or things banging them up or scratching them amd they are strong as hell with a 150 lbs/sq. ft. rating.

I bought a bunch of grocery/hardware store metal pegboard. Can't tell you how good or bad it is until I get it up on the walls.

I'm blown away at what storage solutions cost. I couldn't find anything suitable for my tall walls, loads of stuff, and modest square footage. I started building 2' deep shelving from lumber and plywood - made a huge difference in being able to use my shop like a shop.

I have several black plastic shelving units bought from the Sam’s. Lots of places carry them and the price is reasonable. They are an easy solution to shelf space and can handle some pretty hefty weight. Think - chops saw & table saw weight. They can be strapped back to the wall for added stability and easily zip tied together too. I have been using these in my garages for about 15 years so far without issue.

My neighbor has all of his stuff on wheels (shelves, work benches, tool boxes). It won’t work in all cases, but it gives him a lot of flexibility for different projects. Just something to consider.

I bought Slat Wall from an outlet that sells store displays.

With the current pandemic caused economic situation, maybe you can find some deals from those unfortunate business closings.

it depends of course on what you need to store. In a previous garage I bought ten 30 inch unfinished kitchen wall cabinets. Painted them light grey w/ solid color stain and hung them up 5 cabinets wide in two rows. Bottom of lower cabs were 2 ft off the floor. About a 4 inch space between lower and upper cabs. Filled them up and then bought 5 or so grey plastic tubs and sat them under the cabinets. The tubs handled a few heavy items and things like winter boots. That garage also had 2 ft deep shelves about 2 ft down from the 10 ft ceiling. They had always been an ugly mess so eventually I bought more of the plastic tubs. Put junk in the tubs and labeled w/ a black marker. I spent just a little extra effort to to do all my writing at the same height on each tub. This turned our generally ugly, messy garage into a neat garage for relatively little money because all that we bought we grabbed when on sale.

If you have high ceilings build a loft.

My attached garage has a steep pitched roof and there is good space available. This past year after looking at it for many years I finally put a floor and shelving up there as well as a set of folding stairs.

**** I did not put anything up there that I did not need. I kept a big garbage can handy and made a FREE sign so I could put stuff out at the curb.

After so many years of collecting treasures I finally realized that keeping stuff forever that will never get used needs to go.

After many years of accumulating random tools and supplies, I have come to the same realization.

I still can't get rid of many of the electric tools and such that I used over the last 45 years even though I never use them now that cordless tools are so good.

I'll probably need to have many sessions with a shrink before I can do that.

I gifted a vintage craftsman 2 speed ball bearing angle grinder to a neighbor who had just purchased a vintage airstream that was badly oxidized. The trailer is already half polished. I doubt that there is a cordless polisher that would be suitable for that job.

Naturally, that one was a spare. I kept my newer DeWalt that has a side handle.

12 ft ceiling. About 4x4x30 storage. Great for items used once a year or such. Bottom of beam about 8 ft.

I have one wall with Gladiator wall panels. Two sets of 8 foot panels about 6 inches apart and about 6 or 7 feet high from top to bottom. I have 4 foot panels (4 each) on two other walls. I like them quite a bit and use multiple kinks of hooks, baskets, and shelves. I have multiple metal shelving units (Trinity) on wheels and my main big tool boxes/work benches are also on wheels. It makes it so much easier to get to things and move things if I need to. I do have one very sturdy metal shelving unit that is not on wheels, but it is so good that I have not replaced it. I have one work bench with no drawers that is not on wheels, but I slide small things under it, including stools, small workbenches, etc. The Gladiator items were ordered through Home Depot and the Trinity rolling shelves are from Costco, but I never paid full price for any of them. I always wait for sales b/c the Trinity items are pretty expensive otherwise and when on sale Costco knocks off quitea bit.

Just installed new age cabinets. They are great. Tons of storage and everything is neat and organized. I had shelving in my old garage but it did not look great and everything was always dusty and full of cob webs etc. Now everything stays neat and clean. They are floating so it’s easy to sweep the floor and keep the garage clean.
