Hey guys,
I've been trying to do my homework with regards to the new garage floor that I'm going to be putting down and haven't really found a consistant answer so I figured I'd ask the experts :)

Basically I'm looking to do a modular flooring option with a race deck like tile system and I wanted to be sure that before I lay the tiles down, I have a good enough surface to work with.

My house was built in 1979 and has a concrete floor with a few cracks in it and a decent amount of pitting. If you stand back and look at the garage floor, even with the cracks its still relatively level. A lot of the information that I've read would suggest that I can just clean up the surface and put the tiles down with little to no prep. I'm a bit of a perfectionist at times, so I'm wondering if that is truly ok or if I need to address the cracks or pitting before the files.

Here are some pictures of my floor which are probably the most helpful thing I can do:
Thanks in advance!

You're fine. Wondering what conflicting information you're getting or where you looked. Racedeck's installation page has a nice pic of laying it on a crack. oh and ask them for a discount when you call

You mentioned a" Racedeck Like system".... Not sure what you are going to use and obviously you will want to check with the manufacturer or distributor. Typically with modular floor tiles they are designed to go over exactly this type of floor.

A lot of members have used Landscape fabric or underlayment on floors that are not perfect just to keep the noise down...

Thanks guys.

The reason I asked even though a lot of sites said it was ok to just put the tiles down is because I understand that there is a level of garage floor quality that will impact the look of the tiles. I figured mine probably was in good enough condition to get away with no prep, but figured I'd ask anyway with pictures of my garage to get some more opinions.

The second half of my question would be related to patch work and if there was something that you would recommend putting on the surface (Bonding agent + resurfacer) that might be quick and easy to do before putting the tiles over the pitted concrete. If it's cheap enough I'd consider doing something to give it a little better surface if it actually made a difference. If not, I wouldn't want to waste the time...

Oh and "racedeck like" meaning racedeck, garagedeck, smiss trax, etc....

thanks again!

PM Me your info or better yet email me and I will send you some samples of different products. I honestly would not worry about patching based on what I have seen, but if you want to patch the concrete I would put up a second post "patching concrete" and Scotty or DCS have better products for that than I do at the moment.
