I got this old Castrol grease can for free from a tire, lube place that was throwing it out after using up the contents. I painted it red with some cheap spray paint I already had. I thought about ordering a TEXACO decal to put on it, so I saved a picture of one from the net and printed it out to see how it would look. The printed picture was about the right size, so I printed a second one on photo stock paper on the highest setting and adhered it to the can with spray adhesive. Did the final coat with some automotive clear to protect the picture. A cheap garage trash can.

I have been using these 16 gal/120 lb cans for 20+ years as shop trash cans.

Seeing as how I am mostly a woodworker, they occupy very little space AND are,(usually) 100% free

Check with your local quickie-lubes/WalMarts. They can be customized to your decor,(for the **** amongst us) or left alone..for the obvious purpose intended :)

I wish I knew how many nicely painted 55 gallon Quaker State barrels my dad drug home from work, cut the tops off, filled with garbage over the next few months, and then rolled it out in the yard and lit it on fire, burning off the nice paint.

........and then they started charging deposit on drums.

I was at the monthly Rose Bowl Flea Market last weekend and I spotted a guy that was selling a yellow Shell Oil can like that. I asked him his price and get this, he says $80! I about "shat" as the expression goes. Are you kidding me? Every gas station used to have those small barrels behind them. I'm looking for one now to do the same thing and suddenly they've an expensive thing!

Here are mine, got three of these FREE from a barrel re-seller about thirty years ago. Originally, they contained concentrated Mennen aftershave or something...........smelled like a "two dollar *****" for about five years. Just had to open up the tops. Nothing fancy here, used for garbage and support temporary work surfaces in the driveway. The yellow one was also free, from a garage's garbage and does tool duty in a shed. They have all more than earned their keep.

Cool! Looks great. Those grease barrels are the perfect size for a garage trash can. I have an old Gulf one for my garage which has a pretty nice logo on it so I didn't repaint it.

That's a really great idea!

When I was a kid my grandfather used a civil defense water drum from the bomb shelter under the post office where he worked. I'm guessing it had leaked and he brought it home. Had really cool graphics on it.
