An old plasma tv would add some heat on cold days. I have an old tube tv an it works fine but my garage never gets below freezing inside

I have had various types of tv's in my garage over the last 30 years. Never a problem. I was told years ago to put a tube type tv on a inside wall, if possible. CJDave.

Had my old plasma tv out in my garage. Made the mistake of turning it on on a day when it had rained and was humid. It popped once and all the smoke got out :). Be aware of humidity in a non climate controlled area.

Had a Sony LCD in my last garage for years. Never an issue. It may have shortened the life but it worked for a long time. Eventually it lost a lot of brightness but it was probably 8 years old, I'm guessing it would've happened anyway since it was a real cheapy.

I don't need the distraction of a TV in my workshop, they take too much attention. I do have a radio and a CD player.

No TV's in my shop. Too many chances to lose a body part with full attention on the project at hand. I'd look like a pirate if I had a TV down there.

I have a TV in the garage, but really only use it to get through the menus on my ROKU so I can stream music. Also can be handy when you need to Youtube how to do something while in the garage. No issues so far. The TV cost me zero dollars, so I figured I'd give it a try.

I have a TV in my garage connected to an OTA antenna. I haven't turned it on all year. When I'm working, I'm working.

I inherited one a couple months ago and happen to have an articulating TV mount for it. I made sure it worked and that's the only time I've turned it on. I listen to what I want using Spotify.

I fount it very handy to have a TV connected to a laptop or computer to pull up shop manuals and how to videos in the garage/shop. It's also nice for pulling up parts diagrams and ordering parts.

I have a plasma in the shop here in Texas. It's working fine in our temperature range.

I use it to listen to Spotify or have football games running in the background.

I've got a 50" plasma from @2006 in the garage (no heat/insulation presently) and I mounted it to a cart so I can wheel it around to wherever I need it. I use it mostly for live sports or for the kids if they are keeping me company. I also have my old N64 hooked up to it for them. An AppleTV and a FireTV as well. It's survived pretty harsh conditions out there without missing a beat. I've been thinking about upgrading to a newer/larger smart TV since the prices have gotten so reasonable.

Yep, nothing like farting around in the garage with a game on. That's about the only time I actually turn on the garage TV.

Buddy, "When can we do the brakes on my car?" Sunday of course, watch the game and have some beers after the brakes for the second half.

It's an old plasma too, one heavy beast. So far no issues with temperature. IIRC Samsung says something like 32-104 as the operating temp and down to -4 for storage.

Oh my God. N64? Are your kids being punished? How awful. LOL. I miss my kids being around the house to play video games. Enjoy them while you can. They are grown and gone away from home all to soon. CJDave.

I have an old plasma TV connected to my shop computer. I used it a lot when I first installed it. But honestly, I don't think it's been powered on in over a year. I'd sell it, but it took 3 guys to hang it up there (250lb 60" plasma on a custom welded mount). It'll probably be there for all eternity.

I used to have football parties and we'd watch it. But since Covid, I'm just out there alone, I'll usually just play stuff on my computer monitor. It's just for noise anyway, I'm not actually watching it most of the time. No sense firing up the big electric pig, lol. I think it consumes like 680w.

I lean to no TV in shop. I go out there to work.
Radio is a must though.
Not ruling it out completely ,someday

I am in this camp as well.
I leave a stereo on (low volume) all the time as it reminds me of the AM radio that my grandparents had in their garage/shop decades ago. Also for a period of time I was having an intermittent breaker trip so it was a indicator that it had tripped. When I am in there I will turn the volume up.

Put a 65" Samsung LED in the workshop probably 10 years ago mainly for watching football on weekends and some baseball. Watch it occasionally other times but it mostly sits idle now days since we no longer watch pro sports due to all their nonsense. Built a decent cabinet so I could roll it around and also some tool storage space.
Never have had a problem due to heat, cold or humidity in this southeast Texas location.

I keep meaning to hook up my old PS2 from college on my garage TV. Sometimes a round of golf in Tiger Woods PGA 2004 or a lap around Nordschleife in Grand Turismo 4 can do wonders to help relieve all the stresses of the day.

Hmm, do you not know how to operate the channel buttons? LOL

:bounce: My thoughts exactly when I read his response. Got an anger issue with tv's or what?! You only have HUNDREDS of channels to choose from not to mention they have this thing called an On/Off switch!

I plan to reuse the 10+ year old Vizio I had in our old house. It's in the 40 some inch range which I thought was absolutely huge then. When it dies I'll replace it witht a smaller smart tv. Primarily for Dodgers games and probably the news sometimes.

No tv in my shop either. I have an internet connection and listen to podcasts or music. I used to listen to the NFL football games but I am boycotting those like so many other people.

Same old question that gets kicked around from time to time.

My 32" is now a monitor for the computer. I can listen to Pandora, my choice of stations and wired into the receiver. Great for Youtube videos when working on something.

There are days when I'm working in the garage, grab lunch and go eat it in the garage. Sitting there surfing GJ while eating lunch.

If you are that distracted by a TV, you can always turn it off, no big deal. About like using a credit card. They can be a great asset when you need them but if you can't use them properly, well .. . maybe you shouldn't have one.

Well I am in the camp of HELL YES I have a TV in my shop! And on top of it, I have my older (2014) 80" VIZIO in there. It was the best thing I did. I have an AppleTV hooked up to it, and I cannot tell you how awesome it is working on my cars and having YouTube pulled up and to be able to come out from the lift to see how something is done/wired/etc. I very rarely if ever watch actual TV down there, but it's nice being able to look up parts, diagrams, etc. on an 80" TV versus my iPad or a small computer screen.......it's also nice that I can access my home security cameras, doorbell, etc. from the TV so when I'm down in the shop I can see if I can ignore whoever is there, or talk to them and have them come on in while I'm down in the shop!

No TV here. Just radio... I think a TV would get too distracting imo. Listening to radio requires zero eye balls. ;)

No kidding those things are heavy. Mine is one of the older ones with the separate controller box. I wanted to mount it on the wall, but I'm afraid it'd pull the shop over.

I keep thinking about picking up one of those cheap tvs from walmart with built-in roku. We got one for the kids play room and it works great. It'd be nice to get the tv up off the bench it's on and fee up more work space (that would be quickly filled with junk.

Am I the only one that can still play Mario Kart on N64 for hours? The kids love it. They have newer game stuff in the house, but still enjoy my old Sega, Nintendo and PS stuff.

I don't use a TV in the garage either. If I'm going to put something on it's through speakers or through a laptop if I need to watch some video.

Your brain would break if you saw the stuff I have over here. :D

This is what I bought the HF 5 drawer for.

Besides the beast plasma I do have a 24" older smart TV mounted above the work area. It has a Rasberry Pi on it to watch YT instructional vids and surf the web. I have it on a movable arm to position in different directions.

Here's the beast plasma that sits on a shelf. Forgot I had a pic.

This will date me but I remember when the notion of having a flat screen TV was *so* cool. It was something impressive. Now even a large plasma TV is something to be relegated to the garage. I would be jealous if I actually watched TV. The one in my office hasn't been turned on in months... but irrationally I want a larger one!
