Looking to see what people have done to to mount tv's and stereo's. I am trying to get ideas for the new build. Anyone with surround sound? let's see some pics.

It's an old school 52"

I'd love to hang it up, but the old school projections just don't get down like that.

Old school 20" TV on a high platform in the corner. I really don't watch it that much when I'm working in the garage, I just like the background noise.

I have an old 25" sitting on some rubbermaids for the time being.

Like goodfellow, I just like the background noise. Sometimes I get sick of the radio.

Id like to mount a flat screen when the garage is done..but kinda hard to justify the expense for a garage. Especially since I have 2 other old TVs I dont use.

I bought a Vizio 32" 1080p LCD flat-screen from BJs recently for $547 that is going to be wall mounted above a work bench. Sorry - no pics yet. Its going to dual-purpose as my laptop screen so I can pull up service manuals and web-sites as needed when doing auto repairs. I plan to mount it between two of those 24" Gladiator wall cabinets that Sears has been blowing out recently for like $79 each. Then the stereo and A/V stuff (DTV box, DVD player, etc..) can sit on top of the Gladiator boxes and out of harms way.

I ran a coax inside the walls of my garage. When I get the bench built I will have a wall-mounted flat panel that will also serve as a PC monitor. I left quite a lot of cable outside the wall to allow some flexibility in positioning.

Just a small 13" in the corner mounted on a swivel that is mounted on a 2x6. Looking to redo to a 32" or a flat screen when the weather breaks so I can redo the garage.

I've done bodywork and painting in my garage that included a lot of sanding and grinding, I've had quite a bit of sawdust from cutting wood, and have never really worried about it. Normally when I am done, I take the airhose or leaf blower and clean the garage out. When I have the airhose, I have about a 2 1/2' extension on the nozzle that is angles on the end and I always blow the TV off and out the best that I can. I know at where I work, there are computers all over the factory shop and they get super dusty/dirty and don't seem to have a problem.

On the other hand about TV's......Circuit City's are starting to run their going out of business ads on the tube. Might be a good time to pick up a new one for the shop or house. :)

I don't get it? Why need a TV in the garage?

I'm with you, but to each their own I guess. If I'm working on something in the garage I'd rather not have the distraction of a TV. If I'm watching TV I'm gonna be on my sofa.

More like Why not? If you time your purchases right you can have yourself a 40-42" flat panel and full surround system for < $1k. (no need to buy top of the line for the garage)

For many, the garage is a man-hangout (or man-cave if your prefer). So being able to have a game on, or listen to music, is great.

Yea..Its more time you can spend in the garage working. If Im sitting on the couch, Im usually accomplishing nothing. But in the garage, its hard to just sit around. I'll atleast pittle with something.

I second above. I watch 95% of my tv in the garage, usually while I am working on something and usually speed channel or a car show of some type. I don't like setting down watching something. In fact I have 3 tvs in the 1300 sg ft garage laid out in a triangle pattern, that way I can just glance. I also have a large stereo system, beer fridge, lift, ac and a heater in the garage. The garage is usually dusty from grinding, fiberglass, etc so I have to wipe the tv's screens often. The Garage is mine the rest of the house is my wife and daughters, I win. When I do set down this is my couch, usually some one hanging around and enjoying it.

In my last garage I did everything welding grinding bodywork painting. The 19" tv still works. Now I have 1,000sqft and a 19" just does not cut it for watching the race or ball games. So thats why I am looking for Ideas.

I use a 42" plasma placed about midway down a 60' wall with a swing arm bracket so it can be view from either end of the garage. Surround sound is handled by an old Sony receiver (Ebay). Music is handled from an Ipod. DVD & Nintendo (great for bowling) are new additions this past month.

Just remember that LCD screens are not glass, plasma are. If you get over spray on the screen of an lcd you maybe out of luck. On my old sd tvs' I have had to use lacquer thiner on them several times to get the over spray off. Tvs are like magnetics to anything in the air. Some day I hope to go to a plasma.

I don't have a TV in my shop. I go to there to get away from all that type of nonsense. 99% of what's on TV is garbage anyway, and I don't put on the TV for "noise", as I prefer the solitude of working on something in peace. Just my opinion.

No way I could justify a flat screen for the garage, but we have upgraded our house tv's to flats. Largest is 32" LCD, not exactly big. Anyway, now we have a couple of extra tube tv's so Ill be putting one of em out in the garage.

It hasn't been an issue for me. However, I don't put expensive tv's out there, so it isn't a big deal if something does happen. I built mine into my washer/dryer closet, as I have little wall space elsewhere.

You can get some lexan or plexi, make up a few disposable covers for it - I did that for the LCDs in my classroom. Nothing like seeing a kindergartener poking at the screen to make you reconsider CRTs. Depending on how you attach it, you could still get some dust or overspray underneath, though.

Thanks for the complement smooth.

The over spray problem is exactly why I put in 2 separate bays in my new workshop.
I will not do anything dusty or spray paint in my main room and have basically nothing to clean but the floor in the 14X24 other room.

If you want an expensive tv out there and ur worried about sparks and overspray... build a frame around it and make some doors for it, then you can close it off and not worry about dust, sparks, overspray or whatever....

Would be pretty simple to build something around the new flat screens.....

I just have anyone's hand me down tv's in my shop, 13", 19" right now. So I don't worry about them.

Do you guys experience any issues having the tv in a garage with only limited heat in the winter and no A/C in the summer? Not too sure how the temp affects a TV.

I have a 1980's tube tv. Lows of 10 below in the winter, 90's and humid in the winter - the thing works fine. Not sure of cold temps on the newer plasma/lcd set ups.

Remember to keep a remote in the car. That way you can watch a few more minutes of the game while waiting for the wife.

I had a 25" TV and a 27" TV in opposite corners of my old shop.

Once I get my cabinets built in my new shop I am putting a 32" TV that I have. But the 32" is only temporary, because I plan on buying a newer Plasma TV later this year (Christmas time) so the 50" plasma in our house now is going to my shop

Thinking about putting a TV and stereo system in the garage, but I have a question. In the winter, when the temps dip below freezing would I have to bring them inside. Don't really plan on using the garage much in the winter, because I don't have any heat. But that my change this year, who knows?? :)
