Hi everyone,

I've been lurking for months now and have finally decided to come out of the woodwork and show off my current meager garage.

I started two years ago with a single car garage that proved to be quite insufficient. At one time, 7 bikes were in it and I couldn't move an inch. Close to Christmas last year my wife and I bought our current single family home. The entire reason for the purchase was the garage since I had grown out of my previous one.
Here is the single:

I don't have any pictures of what my current garage looked like when we first bought it, but it was essentially just an empty garage. To clean up a lot of clutter I had, I built a shelving unit. and quickly grew out of that.

I work on and build a good amount of bikes along with vintage racing a 1982 Yamaha Seca 550. It came to me as a last resort in order to go racing this season and proved to be an awesome bike. I am now going back to the bike that I was building for last season, a 78 CB550 with all the goodies that I can throw at it. I'm looking to make about 75 WHP when I'm done.
As you can see, there's 6 bikes in the garage now, 3 in the shed, and another 3 at my dad's place. You can never have enough space!

After a long time of looking through a lot of the inspiring garages here on GJ, I have decided to clean up the garage and make it into something functional, presentable and above all else, a place I don't mind cleaning!

2 days ago I decided that a reorg was needed. My shelf I built was quite imposing so I decided to move it and reposition my black cabinet where the shelf was. Some before, during and after shots. In all of these photos, nothing was removed from the garage. Shows what a little organization can do!

It's quite cold here in Ottawa during the winter months. I have a gas heater, but the walls are not insulated. On my list of things to do so far are the following:

1. Insulate the walls
2. Insulate the attic
3. Run air lines to my work bench
4. More lights!
5. Run more plugs along my work bench ( I currently use either an extension cord or plug directly into the plug under the bench which is a PIA)
6. Install the second garage door opener
7. Install doors on the shelving unit
8. Choose a paint scheme and finish the walls

Number 7 will wait until the spring when it has warmed. The first snow came yesterday and it's ****** cold out there now!

Cheers for now!

Re: Tweaked for Speed Gagage

Looking good so far! Keep all your storage up high so you don't lose valuable floor space and if you run electric for more plugs then you can also use the cuts you make to blow in some insulation.

Sweet bikes. I have a 1973 CB500 I just finished converting to 550. I put upgrades too. Maybe I will start a thread. Great space! Looking better then when you started!

Congrats on the new home! Awesome to see a fellow member from Ottawa on here. I like that you post the "before" shots as these are often overlooked, but very important to truly appreciate the journey of your garage. A journal of sorts lol...

Thanks! It's been a long time coming, project after project. It seems as though it's never ending.

The bike's are tons of fun! This year will be my first year racing a CB550, the fastest guy in the class has almost all of the upgrades that I will. We'll see what happens!

Hey, a fellow Ottawan! Where do you track your bikes?

This year I did Shannonville a few times, a race weekend and a track day, as well as a Mosport race weekend.

Next season I'll be off for most of the warm months, so I'll be going to Calabogie, NY Safety Track, Shannonville, Mosport and St Eustache.

Progress is not as fast as I would like it to be in the garage. I only get a limited amount of time out there since I'm also finishing my basement. Both seem to take way more time than expected, but c'est la vie!

I got out into the garage this morning and cleaned up my work bench. My dad is the deal finder of all deal finders. He randomly found a morgue table which is completely stainless steel (gross I know). I'll be cutting off the legs and putting it on top of the bench as a smooth surface that finally does not have any porosity. I still have yet to figure out how to attach it to my work bench.

My plan is to utilize a lower tool chest like a HF 44" or two for better organized storage below the bench. I'm using plastic storage totes right now and wasting a ton of space. Not to mention it looks completely awful.

I have purchased several engines over the past year and I've come to find myself with way more engine bolts than necessary. Also, a ton of them look almost identical but they'll be longer or shorter by a few millimeters. For now they're organized in bags until I'm ready to clean them properly and put them in the engine.

Before and Afters..

I was trolling kijiji yesterday and came across 2 vises and an anvil for $50. The 4" Record model 100 caught my eye. I've already sold the other vise, a Canadian Tire 4" and the 11lb anvil for $40 total. So I'm out $10 and gas money for the Record. I'm quite happy. It has a little bit of surface rust which is no big deal since it looks like it was barely used! It's a fixed based vise, but that's fine with me. I have yet to use the swivel base, so the red Craftsman on my bench will be re-purposed on another bench if I can figure out how to make one work in my garage.
