It is kind of cold to work in the shop today, so I was thinking what might be affected by the cold in my garage. Apparently the 3 yr old remains of a 5 gal bucket of house paint won't be any better for the experience and the cars will certainly have their low tire pressure warnings on when we go to work Tuesday. Hard to think of anything positive happening other than the bottom of the garage doors being dry and not frozen shut. Less spiders next year? Ticks seem to survive the cold, maybe spider eggs do too?:willy_nil

Holy ****.. Its -17 outside!

I just put a thermometer in my garage. Iv got some paint I'm concerned about now that you mentioned it. My home is a split foyer so I have conditioned space above my garage which usually keeps it above 32. I think

Apparently spiders do not survive freezing (kind of like us) nor do their eggs, so something good is going on. Paint in the plastic bucket does not show the bulge that the 1 gallon steel cans get or at least not so I notice it.

I bring the water based materials from my home/garage during the winter and store them in my basement workshop.. Just to prevent any accidental leaks or broken spills once the thaw starts. I have a water fire extinguisher that I bring in too...

Better to be safe than sorry....

No heat in my shop and it was zero herd last night......I should walk down and read the temps. Well insulated, but I'm curious now.

I'm contemplating insulation and a propane wall heater in mine.

I had the garage door open yesterday while I did some shovelling. It wasn't long before the inside temp matched the -25° outside and my unattended half a beer froze ****-stiff. Bummer. I have no heater out there (except a small 1500W to warm my hands), and on cold nights the heat soak from the house isn't enough to keep it above freezing. I don't mind working in sub-zero temps, but I really hate when my beer freezes!

-17F here this morning. Part of my fall preparation is to bring all liquids/waxes/paints/etc into the basement for the winter. It is probably best if most of that stuff stays in the basement year round honestly, but I don't feel like going down to the basement every time I need something.

I brought my cordless batteries inside. And my tech angle.

Probably should have brought the aerosols in. Meh whatever

I haven't been out to my shop today, but I'd imagine it's around 10* in there. Next year, it will be heated. I'm tired of heating it with a salamander.

We've seen -20F here, but we're up to about +3 right now. A Monitor boiler heats the floor and keeps temps around 40F to 50F in the shop, unless I fire up the wood stove and get it toasty. So far this winter I've gone through about 75 gallons of oil and a cord or two of wood. The shop is a 30x49 quonset with two inches of sprayfoam inside.

We've been down -15c to -20c around here...unheated attached but insulated garage has stayed above freezing so far. Worked all day in the garage a few days ago, two little 120v heaters running and was plenty to keep it quite comfortable with a sweater on (no jacket or gloves)...not bad. It's plumbed with a gas line for a unit heater, just need to get around to putting one in.

My garage stays at 50* in the winter. I have burned more oil this year so far than I did all season last year. Outside is about 5* overnight and 15* for a high during the day.
