Decided to install a Underground Safe Room in my Garage. It is a 12 man unit 60"W x 8'L x 5' D. May not seem important to many but here in Oklahoma it is can be lifesaving. If you have ever experienced a 'twister' you will understand. It will fit under the Wifey's car.
The State held a rebate registration about 8 months ago and I registered and they pulled my number. So I will get a rebate that will offset about 50% of the cost. That was the deciding factor for me. Also, the fraidy hole manufacturer was having a sale.
I felt it is important to get underground as opposed to a above ground safe room. The above ground are tested, but when cars start flying around like missiles I feel underground is safer.
In addition, the unit has a flush top and I wanted a large unit so we would have plenty of room so we could actually sleep in it if we wanted. I will have to modify it abit to allow sleepage.
Cost was $3795 and takes six hours to install.
