Here's the progress on my 2 car oversized garage. Luckily my wife has a separate 1 car garage next to this, so this one is all mine. I'm a big cyclist so I have a pretty good amount of bikes, parts and tools to go along with the car stuff, so I can't wait to fill this thing up.

The plan from the get go was to paint and do some sort of flooring. The house is a new build and the builder had the walls/ceiling drywalled and painted, so this was the easy part. I went with a gray two tone with a blue stripe to break up the grays. I'm still a bit undecided on the trim and door....thoughts? You can also see the idea for the pattern I'm going with.

I really like that color combo! Probably because it reminds me of my place.

Trim = white
man door? = white

Did half last Friday and the remaining half Saturday. It was just myself and a friend working on it. Overall, I'd categorize working with VCT as easy, as I'd never done it before and seemed to get the hang of it pretty quick. I think I'm on about the 6th coat of Armstrong Excelon polish - just mopped on. There isn't any polish on the floor in this pic...this was right after we finished that evening.

Starting to get shiny. This is 2 or 3 coats in. I laid 3.5 black tiles along the back wall as that is where the cabinets will end up going. This way I was able to keep the checkerboard centered in the garage. As far as cabinets go, does anyone have much experience with the Ulti-Mate line? I'm not looking for heavy fabrication/major repair work - just something that will work at an enthusiast level and provide some good looking storage.

Also, any ideas for covering the little 2" or less gap running below the trim and above the VCT?

The garage is looking great. And I really like the cyber grey C6.:thumbup:

Why not use another trim molding to cover the gap? Or better yet, remove the current base molding and use a taller profile.:beer:

Oh, and I have a couple of the Ultimate cabinets. I think they're fine for our use. They are particle board, but very heavy duty and well made and mylar coated I believe. I'd buy them again.

Actually, it's just a dirty black. :beer:

Good idea on the trim, I don't have any idea why the builder installed it this way and left a gap. I've also seen some rubber molding at HD, but didn't have any idea if it would work here.

In commercial buildings when you use VCT they have cove base that is made out of rubber. You could probably use it on top of your wood trim. It is usually just glued on with some adhesive and comes in a large roll. You could order the same color as the blue stripe and that might look kick ***.

Love it. I wanted to do something similar, but so far I just have the white painted....unfortunatley it was grey to start and I wasn't smart enough to paint just half of it....now I have to paint the bottom again - doh!

The main reason they left the trim and most likely the drywall that far off the floor is its a garage and if the floor gets wet against the wall it will wick right up into the drywall . The garage lookas great by the way I am actually leaning towards VCT myself although I have been debating for years over it LOL.

The VCT looks great. I like the layout you did. I thought about using a 2.5" cove base on mine since i didn't like how tall the 4" is. Check mcmastercarr.com for some 2.5" cove base. If you don't mind the 4" you can probably pick that up local much easier.
