Does anyone have preference over a Shop Vac vs a Rigid vac sold at Home Depot? I'm looking for a little more power than my old Shop Vac 6 gallon 2hp. The one I have uses the foam filter and small dust particles blow out the top, even with a clean filter. I have used the paper filters that go over the foam type but they seem to clog up faster. Thanks

I think that's the nature of the beast. The finer the filter the faster it will clog.

I have a Rigid, works great. I just vac'ed up a bunch of drywall powder and it clogged in minutes. I just shook it out into a trash bag and put it back in.

What you can do is "blow" the air out. Since the vac has a "VAC" and "BLOW" port, just buy another length of hose and attach it to the "BLOW" end. Then stick that end out of a window or door. Whatever the filter misses, gets blown outdoors!

I traded (gave away) my 6 hp Craftsman upgraded to the Rigid 6.5 Professional vac. I still have a 5 hp ShopVac metal canister. The Rigid is a much better and quiter machine than either of the others. Best $150 I've ever spent. I would highly recommend it. Did I mention that it is much quieter? Oh yea, it's much quieter too.

To clean the filter I just take it outside and hit it with my hand a bunch of times.

I love my Sears 16 gal shop vac ... it even converts to a leaf blower. I do wish the hose was better made though. I think I paid around $70.00 for it 15 years ago. That's a good investment.

I have a Shop Vac for my powder coating clean up and sometimes use it on the blast cabinet so really don't use it for anything else. I have the filter with the drywall filter over it and it does a nice job from blowing out any fine dust. I also have a Craftsman which I prefer to save for cleaning out the cars and things in the house.

I have a sears also. My buddy has the same one and he just bought this aw=esome HEPA filter for his. Its a lifetime filter and you don't have to remove it from the vac to **** up water. It was 32 bucks. Im gonna get one this weekend.

got a link to this liftime filter? sounds like a great idea and it's good to **** up water with too may be something to get

i would go with the shopvac but if the ridged has a liftime warrenty i would probabally get it over the shopvac just for the warrenty the only issue i have ever seen with the shopvacs is the switches burning out they seem to last a very long time even when stuck in a corner sucking up water mixed with salt and sand everyday over the winter i have not seen how well the ridged's hold up but i am very pleased with my little shopvac
