I'm new to the forum and trying to determine the ventilation requirements for my boat garage under construction. The building is made out of 8" block - 21 feet wide by 44 feet long with block walls 14 feet tall. There are 2 doors on the same end - 12 x 12 garage door and 3 foot passage door. The roof will be a standard 6:12 truss structure with approximately 1 foot overhang on each side.
I want to install a gable exhaust fan to keep the building cooler in summer. The building volume is approximately 16,000 cu. ft. based on the dimensions above and the overhang of the trusses provides maybe 30 sq ft of intake area. How do I determine the CFM for a gable mounted fan? Home Depot has a fan that is 6000 CFM; is that adequate? Should I not use a ridge vent on top of the roof to keep from sucking hot air back into the building when the fan is running?
