Garage vents

Hey guys new to forum. Here's my question how to vent this garage. I have my house full foam insulation. I'm in tx by the way. My garage attached to the west of the house. I did a barn style ceiling and the garage is insulated with regular insulation walls and ceiling. It isn't vented at all. There is a door at the top I access my attic through. It gets very hot in here. Should I add soffet vents or gable vent with a fan or wind turbine up top. I should have done ridge vents when I built it just over the garage but I didn't.

I got a solar powered gable vent fan today to go with the earth tube. 1,628 CFM for areas up to 2625 Sq. Ft. We'll see how that works

Only concern I have with gable vent is momma wants to turn garage into a master bed room once my other shop is built.

Hey I'm just north of Austin and interested in what answers you get too. I haven't thought of venting much since I'm in the foundation phase of my shop.

Ultimately you want 3/4”-1” of space minimum between your insulation and roof boards between your rafters this is best done with double wax coaed cardboard air shoots. Then a continual soffit vent and a ridge vent all the way across. Make sure you get a quality ridge vent that has air baffles that deflect the air up and around the vent as you want it to create a draw this combined with natural heat rising you will get excellent sir flow.

Also power vents or wind turbines are ok but neather do well for a finished attic barn style roof. Turbins only draw air if they move so quality and level instsllation is important. Powervents require monitoring wether by you ir equipment they need to turn of and on with heat, humidity, and barometric pressures which change constantly and again work good for a wide open space. Also remember if you use a power vent all other roof vents need to be blocked otherwise it will simply draw from the nearest roof vent and leave all other air stagnant

Yes, remember, to get air out, you have to get cooler outside air in.

you can always remove the ridge caps and cut in a ridge vent. That plus the soffit vents should do it.

I would go with the soffits and turbine.
That will **** the high, hot, air out.

Ok thanks. I still have a bunch of shingles left from buildingmy house. Maybe ridge vent with soffit vents be the best choice. I was looking at maybe 4 roof air vents just cut shingles and decking and add those vents. I'd sure hateto create a leak issue though

Ok one more question. I have a 24' garage. I see the rolls of vent come in 20'. I know to stay back 6" off each end for the ridge vent. Would it be ok to stay back a ft off each end and just run a 20ft section of ridge vent?

Also my tabs on my shingles I'll cut are 12". Should I get a 12" vent or a 11.5" vent.

Powered roofs vent should be outlawed (and are in some places). Solar maybe but don't over do it. Problem with powered vents is they create a negative pressure in the attic and **** the air out of the conditioned space you are trying to cool or heat. Proper natural venting from the soffit to the ridge/gables is all you need. Research shows venting beyond this yields no benefit and can actually cost you more than you save. Avoid the cheaper cardboard chutes - they collapse over time. Here's an article with a ton more information.
