I plan to go two-tone (white over medium grey) with some type of stripe to separate the colours in my new garage.

That's probably the most common and is what I did. The white upper walls and ceiling reflect the light well. I used a very dark graphite grey stripe about 7" wide between the white and medium grey. The outlets sit in this graphite area and I painted them graphite also. I thought I may add a narrow brighter stripe accent to the top or bottom (or both) of the center stripe but have not gotten around to it. I also put a black/white checked wallpaper border around the top of the wall.

Here is mine. The bottom is light gray, hard to tell from this picture. The floor is gray epoxy.

I just finished up painting my walls...Dark gray on the bottom and I used a very light gray on the walls and ceiling. Then a 7" wide medium gray stripe with a 4.5" wide red stripe on top of that...

I used Frogtape masking tape to do the lines, and also used the trick of painting the underlying color on the tape edge first, letting that dry, and then painting in the stripe color. Frogtape is some great stuff. I have never had lines come out this sharp when painting over texture before.

A single color paint scheme is a missed opportunity. It just doesn't stand out saying that you have redone your garage. A 2-color scheme just makes it pop.

I wanted mine to feel like a small shop might in 1963. It's a beige/cream sort of color with green cabinets and benches.

rwhite692, I like how you think. I am in the process of planning my garage revamp and I was considering something simular.....but different. A forest green/gray/orange/gray/white scheme. maybe to complicated, maybe the green will be to dark but all my cabinets are green/black or green/orange. still pondering. I think now i'll put some different schemes together to show

Why don’t you go with the most common two-tone scheme in America? That would be tan faded drywall paper with bright white joint compound. I f@#$%ing hate seeing that! If I ever bought a house with an attached garage that was like that it would get a coat of primmer before I moved anything in.
My previous garage was actually wallpapered in an old 1950’s paper? The one wall I rebuilt to put in 220v outlets I covered it with OSB and painted it pure white.
In my new shop, (shop, not car storage) the walls will be pure white OSB I am hoping to put up cement backer board around the welding area.
If you do any real work on cars I would suggest pure white or a very light color that will reflect light. You can NEVER have enough light. It becomes more important as you get older, and you will get older.

very nice result. I usually use a thin film of clear or white caulk to seal the tape edge to the textured wall.

I assume he means the green one that is in the right side of the picture.

yeah. i know it's covered with sh%t, but it's the wall where all the cabinets, compressor, workbench, and tools are so I haven't gotten the courage to tackle painting that wall yet.

So ignore it.

What is not real obvious when you paint the walls is the change in attitude....all of a sudden you will find that you take much greater pride in your garage and tend to keep things cleaner and more organized.
