Does anyone know whats needed to build a cement roof garage? My current garage is under the house. I am thinking of building a garage using the house's foundation as one of the walls. The garage would have a very low slope, cement roof which would also be a patio which is accessable from the kitchen. I am having a hard time finding information regarding a cement roof (top)

Thanks

I'm not sure I fully understand your situation. But, if you need to cover a space with a flat concrete "roof" you could consider something like this precast concrete plank system. http://www.kerkstra.com/HollowCoreCom.php

This happens to be a Michigan manufacturer, but they are commonly called "Dox Planks" in the structural concrete arena.

On my back porch, which is 12' high I poured a 4" slab and then laid pavers in a mortar bed.
I used 8" concrete block walls on two sides (against the house) and block columns (with concrete headers across the openings) on the other two sides. The block got a brick veneer and arches between the columns.
To support the concrete deck (which has a porch below it) I used W8x10 steel I beams and then screwed pan slab metal (thick steel sheets with ribs bent in) to the I-beams. Think of the I beams as girders and the pan metal as joists. The ends of the pan metal sat on the block walls. I used a rubber sheet flashing and then poured the 4" slab.
I got an enginneer to size the beams.
That method would work for a garage roof as well.

A guy in my 'hood did that so he could have shop space in the basement under his garage. IIRC it was very expensive (material & crane rental). They topped it with a 4" slab as well.

Currently I have a porch off the kitchen which is about 10 ft off the ground. The yard has a steep slope. If I dig out the earth and poor walls I can add garage space. I need the roof to be flat so that it acts like the deck. I can not put up a slope roof because it wood block access to enter the house from the back yard. Basically I want to poor 3 foundation walls and cap the top to make it a garage, the fourth wall would be the existing foundation wall of the house.

You will need an engineer and/or architect to draw up and stamp your plans, other than the extra expense of materials shouldn't be a big deal. One thing to consider is the required depth of the concrete slab and the structure to support it,will you have enough headroom under it to make it worthwhile still? If not,the pre-cast solution may be the only route to take.
