I have a dettached garage,36x25, 3 stall, which I use half of for side project metal fabricating. The walls are finished drywall but no insulation, ceiling is open rafter 12' high. I will probably look at installing a reznor Nat. gas hanging heater next spring, but Iowa winters are not mild temps, so untill then I need something that will heat the space and not be cost prohibitive to use. Any suggestions on electric units that would do the job.

I picked up a Sunstream style radiant kerosene heater that does a great job in my 24x30 garage. I am in Indy and it gets cold here.... The heater costs about $190-$200 and gets 6 hours of run time from a tank that looks to be around 3 gallons +/-. Bang for the buck it works good and keeps the noise down.
Mine is from Menards and it has a different name on it, but it is the same thing.

Put up some plastic to keep the heat from escaping out the roof... I had a 30X30 unisulated shop years ago... I lined the entire shop with plastic (be carefull with welding, etc) and it actually heated pretty good with a small radiant heater.
