I don't know what changed today but when I got to work I can no longer access garagejournal it says it is not in the accepted use policy because of news use or something to that effect if it wasn't for my iPhone I would be lost this can't be right anybody got any ideas

So what you're saying is that your employer doesn't want to pay you to look at garagejournal.com? :)

That's one way of putting it ihave never had a problem before but now it says it is categorized as usenet news non of the other sites I frequent are blocked but garage journal is now. Blocked

Forums are blocked on certain computers by me too. Very strange. It could be automatic, as opposed to being an intentional block due to your browsing habits.

Where I work I can surf the Internet it is acceptable I am in maintenace they call me when they need me for something the computers have always had blocks on them but it is usually for obscene things I have never had a problem
with garagejournal before

They probably blocked it because of all the "girls" Merk was posting up, they were doing you a favor! :lol_hitti
If it happens again you can use a proxy to get around the blocking software.
instead of going straight to the website, you go to a proxy which in turn goes to the website for you. So from the network side all it sees you going to, is the proxy.

The blocking criteria is provided by a database your company subscribes to. They can usually choose general categories to block, forums usually isn't one of them because the IT guys usually use them a lot to solve equipment issues. Every so often a site gets put in the wrong category and a customer will complain. The maker will then research it and unblock it if it doesn't apply. That usually doesn't happen in hours though. If it happens in a few hours, it could be someone in IT is screwing with you. Watching you squirm.

If they are blocking forums, then they should already be blocking proxy sites.
