Hello All,
Just purchased a house in GA with my first garage. I've spent the last 24 years living in smallish, older houses with carports due to moving around in the Air Force. I retired last year and wife retires this summer as well.
We just closed on our new house with a 1480 sq ft garage with finished walls, water, 200 amp service with 5 legs of 220 run, central heat and air, wood shop, and soon to be college football room. :bounce: Heck, it's better than most houses I lived in over the last 24 years.:wtf:

I've never had a garage and I really need to figure out just how I am going to use it. Right now it's a blank slate and I am excited about outfitting it.

Here's some pics. I'll be repainting the interior in a couple of weeks.

Looking forward to learning and seeing what possibilities there are out there. :bounce:

Are there 2 seperate rooms, one on the back & one on the left side by the covered area? Could build a helluva outdoor kitchen/bar/BBQ area under the covered part

There are three areas in the building. Through the double doors is a 10x20 room that will be used as a wood shop. Then there is another room that is 12x30 that will be the college football room. The bays are 30' deep and 32' wide. The covered area wraps around the end. That will be used for trailer and lawn equipment stuff I think.

We also have a 16x32 pavilion with power that we are going to make into an outdoor living room/kitchen. Here's a pic of that...

Awesome for your first garage and you didn't have to build it!! Tons of possibilities.
Are the ceilings high enough for a lift?

Only a small lift and then it would depend on how tall the vehicle is. I did not measure the height, but will when I get back over there next week.

I could not have come up with a better garage on paper if I had too. This completely blew me away and your are correct, the possibilities are endless.

Plans are to repaint bays white (for now). I need to figure out what kind of work bench I will need/want and how to lay it out. I am also looking for a new tool box as I have outgrew the current set up years ago, but never had room for anything larger. The wood shop area will be first to be set up as I know what I want and will need it to do any projects for rest of house/garage.

Not sure how to set a garage up...so any help in what order I should be doing things would be very helpful.

Congrats on the garage, that has great potential. The outdoor space will be great also.

Look for/build a work bench, this could be a old solid core door from a recycler, an old steel frame etc. Add an overhead light for the work bench, compressor is handy to have.

You have a blank canvas, relax and enjoy retirement, thank you for your service.

Good call on solid door for benchtop. I know of a door recycler near here.

I do have a 20 gal compressor that I've had for years...it'll do for now, but will replace with larger, 220v model when it dies.

Your very welcome. The service was a blast and I would do it again in a heartbeat. Got to see and do a lot of things I never would have been able to do. Sacrifices were the norm, but now it's time to live a little and put ourselves first for a change.

I'm impressed with the garage & the party area, but that house in the first pic looks quite small, I do like the green fire escape tho :)

Ya better start a thread in the gaarge gallery forum :)

Wow! That is a great starting point.

What kind of work are you planning to do in it? Just automotive? Woodworking?

I've got to say, I'm jealous of all that space.

LOL...big garage, small house. lol You should see the "playhouse" that is here...big enough for a guest quarters and has electric.:wtf: We are letting him take that and the swingset since we are empty nesting now.

I do a lot of things. Mostly general modding to cars and working on the bikes. I have a bike lift already, just never a place to put it. I love to do a lot of woodworking and will finally be able to set up all my saws, drills and whatnot and leave them out to use. I've waited 25 years to have my own garage, I'm due.

man o man what a garage to start out with. Consider yourself lucky.

Welcome to GJ and feel free to hit up this thread too,

Thanks and I do consider myself to be blessed. Sacrificed a lot over the last 24 yrs due to military, so it's nice to be able to finally get something we want. Look forward to reading all the stuff on this board and using some of the ideas in my own garagemahal.

WOW! Can you just pick that up and drop it off on my property! I love the look of that shop...inside and out. You definitely need to post this in the garage gallery section! Love the place! What did you retire from? Does the house match the shop?
