I've purchased some garden hose quick disconnects from Menards and Ace hardware over the past couple years and have found thy just don't last. After the first season they seem to start leaking and end up just being nuisance. Is there a better or higher quality garden hose quick disconnect out there for sale? I love the concept but I just am not having any luck with them lasting.

I've had some metal ones that are ok.
Ive found Gardena ones work alright but the plastic male ends get britle and snap off after a couple years.

I use the brass ones from HF. The formed washer only lasts on season before leaking, but the special washers can be bought in quantity online for not that much. And I put a shutoff valve on each hose end. Before that, I tried the brass ones with an automatic shut off like an air hose QD, but I was the only one in the family with the strength to install them.

Look on-line for something that is made in Germany. These quick-disconnects are very popular in Europe and Germany in particular.

I got brass ones from Princess auto and bought more from Amazon, which were compatible.

I use brass ones and they work well/ do not leak. The part that does leak is the rubber washer which I replace every year… I bought a 10 pack of washers for a few dollars and replace preemptively.

I don’t know who makes them, but the brass ones I’ve gotten from Griot’s Garage have held up for 10 or more years.

Dramm makes real ones in USA. Not fake brass colored aluminum.
I stick with the real brass QDs, but that's because I have brass hose ends. If you've got one of those newfangled hoses with aluminum ends, I'd actually recommend using aluminum fittings, because the brass/aluminum threaded connection tends to lead to corrosion that will destroy your hose.

Bingo - I got a cheap set and they have galvanically welded to the bib .

If you're looking for water stop connectors Gardena is the best, i prefer these to every other one I have ever had/used. Take care of them and they'll last for years. I have one that is over 30 years old, came with the Gardena oscillating fan sprinkler I bought at HQ back in the day....

get these

I got these from Amazon, they have been great, easy to use and no leaks and are real brass. worked so well I bought it again twice for a total of 3 sets. I really only wanted the male ends for all my sprayers but they don't sell them individually so I have 5 couplers that I don't use. It has a pretty big opening so flow reduction is minimal. I have tried others with auto stop and with smaller openings and you could notice a big reduction in flow.

Eley! Pricey but worth every penny!

I have those and also picked up swivels and shutoffs the last time we were in the US (can't get Eley in Canada easily or cheaply). I have to say, they look and feel better than most I've had over the years. Haven't had the chance to use them yet but I'm sure I won't be disappointed.

A few have mentioned the Gardena quick connects. For something made of plastic thery're tough as nails and work well. Unless you store them out of the sun and/or inside when not in use, they do have a lifespan of a few years. They are a little restricting due to the smaller pass through but not horrible. I've always had enough pressure to do whatever I need to do.

When you say swivel do you mean something that goes between the nozzle & the male end of the hose so the hose can rotate instead of twist? I'm not finding anything like that on their site.

I do too, but with those do you have to turn the water off before disconnecting? With my brass ones I have to shut the water off before I disconnect them, with my Gardena's I don't.
Yes. Thats the one downside, the brass ones dont have a stop. Usually I can swap nozzles with the water on either by opening the attachment (so the water flows through it) or kinking the hose while I make the change.

I have been thinking about getting one of the Dramm ball valves to mount on the hose end. Theyre pretty $$ though. But Dramm stuff is quality, I have several Dramm nozzles.

Little late to the party...but get thee down to your local farm supply store and get some camlocks, like these:

Unbelievably durable and easily cleaned if you drop them in the dirt. Available in nylon, aluminum, or SS versions, they're standardized so they all interchange — you can use an aluminum male with a nylon female, for instance. The seal is a common rubber washer, easily replaced. Every farm store worth the name carries the things, so no matter where you go you can get them.

I like the Dramm stuff I have too, and they've also had good support (sent me some o-rings for free when mine cracked). For shutoffs, I have a couple from Lee Valley (https://www.leevalley.com/en-us/sho...ries/44680-straight-shut-off-valve?item=AL220) that are really nice, and may be a little cheaper than that Dramm one. I've also made them before with 3/4 GHT x 3/4 MPT adapters and a 3/4 FPT ball valve; real robust but pretty chunky.

+1 on the Gardena ones. Gardena is part of Bosch
I recently got a Gardena sprayer that comes with the quick connect on it, and liked it enough that I got a couple more adapters. The flow restriction hasn't been an issue for me.
