Tried and true 100% rubber line that I brought the first spring I lived here 5 years ago) Drain it in the fall (blow it out now since I have a Compressor here and put back up on the hose thing beside the house where the tap is then don’t think about it until April).

My GF brought a vinyl hose couple years ago, if you ask me now....I couldn’t tell you where it is. All we need now is a short 15-20 foot hose for the back yard.....time to check out Amazon!

Rubber hoses, they are absolutely worth it. When I moved out here 4 years ago all the hoses were vinyl and super old cheap ones likely from my grandmothers. Needless to say they were heavily patched and/or busted up. Apart from one obviously newer one they have all gone straight to the curb. I did a lot of reading and found threads like these on gardening & lawn forums and the one constant was Craftsman rubber hoses. I found Sears had 50' hoses on sale for $20 and bought two, I should have bought more. The forums all recommended them, from people who bought them last spring to people that had bought them 10-20 years ago and by far the biggest complaint was that sometimes they'd get black smudges on their hands. I also pull all the washers from everything with a connector and replace them with silicone washers. They're not a dime a dozen but I've never had one leak.

You guys with rubber hoses to they leave that goo in your hands? Or get sticky? How to they hold up to being ran over on a gravel driveway? Mist of my hoses break down do to this.

I have used texhnor apex brand hoses before and I'm not that big of a fan any more. I bought 6 50' farm and ranch hoses about 6 years ago. I think I have one that dosnt leak and have the original ends.

And good 3/4in hoses out there? I don't need the cold weather flexibility but I do need a 3/4in 100' for my gravity water system at a off grid cabin.

Dramm has brass ends, EPDM rubber, USA made, lifetime warranty. I think I'll be spending the extra 10 bucks for one soon.

3 pages on water hose?:lol_hitti

Simple: Use rubber hose.
Don't use non rubber hose.
Don't drive over hose. If anyone does, punish with lashings from a rubber hose.

I have 2 50' GoodYear rubber hoses and a 75' rubber Craftsman. We also use 50' Continental rubber hoses at work. I love them all. My favorite is the Craftsman. Rubber hose is the only hose to get. They cost more but are worth every cent. I refuse to use a vinyl hose for my remaining days on this Earth

I have old Craftsman black rubber 75' hoses, but after reading they aren't the same anymore IDK what to say. Keep in mind, Legacy makes Flexilla and has many products that are the same or better than the Flexilla line and are usually a little cheaper.

Question of the day is: 5/8” or 3/4” hose?....... What are you using?

Almost all these rubber hoses I see people posting from craftsman, Goodyear, continental and others are all 5/8. I have yet to find an American brand rubber hose that's 3/4 and a decent price. Maybe someone can post a link.

A decent price to me would be $35 for 50ft

FYI: Craftsman does not make that good rubber hoses like they use to. I would stick with 100% rubber and wind it up in big loops to prevent kinking. I have a Dramm 17203 5/8" x 75' yellow hose (available on amazon) and it is fantastic (not to heavy, not easy to kink, durable connections, leave no marks)

I have the black Continental USA rubber hose from HD mentioned several times here. I bought it last year and it has kinked more times in use in one year than the green vinyl hose that I used prior in 25 years. This is my first rubber hose, so I'm not sure if this is normal, but I am not impressed. I think I'll install a new end on my old vinyl hose and go back to it for primary use; it was fine other than my dropping it too many times and damaging the end.

Yes........rubber may kink.

"Continental Premium 5/8 in. Dia x 50 ft. Commercial Grade Rubber Black Water Hose" from Home Depot. I replaced all my hoses with these two years ago and they are awesome.

^^^That's what I always thought. A pointy headed friend explained why it's not really the case. It made sense. I couldn't tell you exactly what he said though. I remember he was talking about the difference between pressure and volume, and what those terms mean. All I remember for sure is there is a lot more to plumbing than '**** goes downhill'.

If you have a choice of 50' of 5/8 restriction or two small restrictions and 3/4 hose il take the 3/4 hose. Pressure drop with multiple sprinklers is where I could see this mattering in my situation.

Most 5/8 or 3/4 hoses i found have the brass ends with a 1/2 inch opening. kinda like having 3/8 air hose with 1/4 end fittings.

Exactly!
I have this "argument" with my friends who "rave" about their 3/4” hose and when I point out the spigot is fed with a 1/2” copper pipe and the pipe goes to a spigot that is then reduced down to a 3/8” restriction....... They look at me and say: "But the sales guy told me 3/4” is better than 5/8” hose" :lol_hitti

If the ends are not brass, return it. Waste of money. Note that many manufacturer’s disguise aluminum to look like brass. If it is brass it will be listed as such.

Most of the 5/8 hoses discussed also have 3/4” options.

As to surviving being run over by a car/truck on gravel......nothing. One sharp stone and it is cut. May take a day or a decade LOL.

Both. 3/4 flows more water but is heavy to drag around and reel up. Switched one my bride used to 5/8 and is much easier. Both are 100’.

What makes the Eley hose worth 2x more than. Other non rubber hoses?

I used to replace those crappy Home Depot Gilmour, Goodyear hoses every two years or so, heavy, kinking POS.

I have 6 years on 2) 100' ELEY hoses, not a drip or kink. Both in the AZ sun 24/7.

Same goes for the cheap, leaky hose reels, ELEY makes a good one.

Those Eley quick connect fittings do not leak. I changed out a few O rings because they were getting dried out, that's it.

Well worth the money for performance and lack of aggravation and buying hoses and parts every two years.

Made in USA and a 10 year warranty.

Ain't no way I'm paying THAT much for a 75' garden hose. My 25 year old Craftsman black rubber hoses have brass ends, work perfectly, are left outside on the reel 24/7/365 and were maybe $25.00 each, tops.

What's wrong with anodized aluminum hose ends?

They fuse together with brass or other dissimilar metals and are impossible to remove after left on for a period of time. It’s called galvanic corrosion.
