I've got some Suncast reels and a couple oddballs. They are ok but not great. My biggest complaint with all I have had is the small diameter of the reel. If it isn't warm out the hose kinks just bending so sharply and unbending. And once the hose is kinked it tends to repeat until it fails.

This thread got me motivated! After posting, I finally bought the Eley spray nozzles. The description on the website hardly does them justice, they are even nicer than I expected!

Not sure if posting this information is allowed here, but I just saw Eley has a Black Friday sale. (I am looking at my order from last month, It's not a discount off a raised price!) I like the Eley spray nozzles so much I am going to buy a spare one now.

"The sale is available to all website visitors, with ship-to destinations within the Unites States."

Thx, I've been going back and ofrth on a reel/hose combination as I'm not sure on where I want to mount it (which will change the config.). I guess I'll have to decide today!

Eley all the way. Mounted mine on a piece of Trex and added storage. Had it 11 years now.

Weird. My "old" one is 3 years old and has the old style bent copper elbow swivel. My 4 month old one has a different cast elbow and swivel than yours. The Eley website doesn't show a setup that matches yours that I can find. I wonder why my "old" one is newer than yours, but has the "copper" style swivel. I bought them both directly from Eley...

rgarman's looks like the "Rapdi Reel" line from 2000-2006 and there were some changes in design:

Mine is 2 years old and has the copper design. Same as the older one I had at my last house.
Confusing. Eley's parts list states sales of the copper tube design ended in April 2020. I ordered it June 2022... :dunno:. no biggie. Their Customer Service Rep told me there is no difference in performance and in the rare event the swivel ever breaks, the new design is a direct replacment. I'm not worried about it, just curious as to why the two I bought on year apart aren't identical.

Hmmm, I ordered my 1st one in June 2019. This current one January 2021. Strange indeed. Either way, I love the product and the customer service.

I do believe they have been through three iterations of the swivel, at least that I know of. My Eley (Rapid Reel) reel is over 10 years old and has the swivel shown in Harman's photo. They sent me a replacement around 2 years ago and its the bent copper swivel. This is the most recent swivel:

Not sure on the swivel. I haven't changed anything other than to add the second elbow that is attached to the hose. Just seemed like it made a cleaner transition to me.

The Strongway Reel from Northern Tool has been good to me, have 2, going on 5yrs, both mounted to the house siding with 100ft of hose in them.

At the time it was quite a bit cheaper than Eley, now I see the price gap has closed somewhat.

I’ve been using a Liberty 712 reel for a year, and it’s done well. It’s not fantastic, but it works and wasn’t too pricey. I wanted a fixed position, but the ability to change the direction of the reel is awesome.

And yes, there’s 100’ of Eley hose on it. 😀

Read through the entire thread. I see a lot of Eley recommendations and how, "they've served me well..." but the question is, Do they ACTUALLY not leak? Not at all or do they MOSTLY not leak?

A lot of money but would be worth it IF true no leakage, almost no maintenance - no O ring changes, re-tightening fittings, etc.

I have 3 Eley hose reels. I am thinking maybe 2 years now? None leak.

On my second one. Left first one at old house. These do not leak. Hose reels, hoses or their nozzles are worth the cost.

O-rings will always leak eventually, and need to be replaced. Eley has really nice replacement o-rings too. 😁

The big thing for me, is I pull it off the reel and it flops out straight without any memory.

ELEY. Buy once, cry once.
Same with hoses. ELEY.
The ELEY seemed really nice, I had 1 cheap suncast and have another of the same vintage on wheels that that were 15YO having never moved and lasted 9 years of it's life living outside in the SC sun and and 6 years in the North East and was still intact. I went with the gorilla 150' from HD with no wheels for $109 to replace the one outside my garage, very pleased with the price point/appearance and functionality of it. It holds my 100 foot Craftsman rubber hose perfectly, I'm going to buy another one for the other hose that's still out behind the house. No crying needed, if the suncast lasted that long, this one should last the rest of my life.

My two 100' Craftsman rubber hoses lasted about 25 years and were both replaced on the Suncast reels about 1 and 1/2 years ago before they became too hard to find when one finally aged out. I'm happy with the Gorilla reel and will be getting another for the rear of the house shortly as with 100' of hose in opposite corners the wheels are useless to me. The Gorilla came with brass fittings already matching the brass fittings on my hoses, so no concerns there.

If you want wall mount, swivel, auto retract-

we tried a HoseLink on the side of the barn about 8 years ago, and it has worked so well we added one to each end of the house as well.
