Over the last couple years I've been pretty pleased with Corona garden tools. Their imported, but seem the nicer choice in the local hardware store.

Well over the past three months I've broken a couple Corona Loppers, and am ready to step up to something nicer.

Any recommendations for USA made (or at least not cheapo taiwan and chinese) garden cutting tools like shears, loppers, pruners and the like?

Looks like Felco is the premiere brand in the segment, and I am prepared to pay the high price if they're worth it. Fiskars seems to gone the import path. Any professionals here?

I'm not a professional, but I bought the carbon fiber Felco loppers and they are the best loppers on the market. End of story, period etc..

Feather light, super sharp, and all parts are replaceable from the manufacturer ensuring years of service.

I bought my from Kilian's, great company.

I also bought the Felco 7 hand pruners as well (Felco's top of the line with swivel handle), my wife loves them and I do too.

+1 on corona going down in quality. My older pair (5+ years) of Corona bypass loppers would cut almost anything. I got a newer one because it had the telescoping handles...and I couldn't cut anything without chomping at it atleast twice. Just about threw it away after the first use. But..decided to keep it around as a back up anyway.

I've been looking at some Felcos from Gemplers but at $75 they're kinda pricy. says high quality swiss blades but doesn't mention COO.

I'd say Felcos usually are worth the high price. We use Felco hand pruners at work (Botanical garden) exclusively. Shears and loppers are a mix of Bahco and Felco. Hand saws are Felco. Corona used to be a great value, but the quality has become inconsistent. Never tried Gardena... they look like quality tools.

I have a fiskars ratcheting loppers that have been great for the two years I have had them. They cut 2" branches no problem with the ratcheting feature. They have stayed sharp and I use them a lot, probably abuse them. I'm sure they aren't the best and I don't think they are made in the US but they have been good for me.

Man that is disappointing to hear about the Coronas. I have a few different older sets myself and will have to take good care of those.
