Do tractor work on the side. Mainly shredding pastures, grapple work and box blading. Ordered a new tractor that'll come in February. Getting serious about getting a gas powered air compressor for my trailer to blow out radiators, filters and screens with and also make changing flat tires on he trailer quick and painless. Will prolly use in my shop when I need big air for cut off wheels or bigger impacts.

Wanting to get y'all's advice. Won't be used commercially and maybe on a busy week 2 hrs a week.

Harbor freight 30 gallon truck mount for $1099-18 cfm@90
Tractor supply IR 30 gallon truck mount $1899-24@90
Kellogg with Kohler 30 gallon truck mount $1800-21 cfm@175

All come with electric start. Hesitant to buy used due to unknown hours/maintenance and near new prices. Which do you think would fit what I'm wanting. Looked at wheel barrow style and if I'm spending this much I want more cfm

I were going to pick I would say Kellogg with Kohler. I got a Curtis 23.5 cfm@175 and love it. It is great to be able to pull up anywhere and you have air. Go ahead and get a good hose reel preferably a truck mount not a wall hanger. As for using the shop for big stuff. You won't have to load the tractor up and take it anywhere you have you are bring the shop to it. I was surprised how much it has saved me in time and money. I have pulled down my dozer tracks on location to change a grease tension seal. It was nice not to have to load up the dozer and take it to the shop.

The HF is a good disposable unit. One thing to keep in mind is a compressor pump is normally splash lube. Your truck will have to be pretty level most of the time to run the compressor out of the truck.

If you get a pressure lube its not as critical as long as your not on such a high angle you starve the pickup tube. Quincy QR series, Champion PL series, etc..

The Kellogg you mentioned is a semi pressure lubed pump. It uses an oil pickup ring and the force of the rotating crank to force oil to the big end and wrist pin.

Currently have a Deere 5055e cab. Been nothing but a nightmare. 8 out of 18 months in the shop, dealers put 50 hrs on it and about 20k in warranty work. Dealer gave me in trade what I paid for it.

ordered a Deere 5100e with h260, third function, buddy seat and 24/12 trans. Looking forward to getting this going. Should turn a batwing pretty easy on my days off.

How much angle is too much? I know that is a get some popcorn question and start the debate but I would like to know. I would assume that the gas engine oil level sensor (Honda) would shut things down when it got to be a problem. This assuming that they are both working off the same principle (splash lube).

Impossible to know for sure because every sump is held at a different height. Also the engine sump on a Honda doesn't correlate to the sump on an air compressor pump. Most pumps were designed a long time ago when they were new with Tecumseh or Wisconsin engines. I think IR says its 4*. There is a sticker on most portable units now that will tell you the angle. Ive seen in the part manual kits with float level switches to interlock a compressor thats out of level, but I cant remember the brand manual I was looking through. It was a long time ago on a rainy day at the shop.

Ive rebuilt quite a few Emglos and RolAir units where one rod is seized to the crank and the other isnt, usually indicative of unlevel operation. Roofing guys love to lock them up the most this way. They are probably so used to working on an incline what they think is level isnt!

I like 75 ft of 1/2 hose on a truck unit. For inch gun may have a way around the reel with a shorter hose, 25 ft or so.
Bottles are under the truck. 46 gallons.

The Champion gas compressor I sold many years ago was the finest gas powered compressor I ever saw.

For anyone that was wondering....I'm going to go with a 30 gallon John Deere engine drive. They are made by mi-t-m and basically painted green. It puts out 29 cfm at 90 and it'll come in when my tractor does in February. Getting 10% off gets it closer to being in line with the others. I really like that it comes with a built in regulator

I just keep an old Craigslist Emglo wheelbarrow style in my truck when I'm haying.
It gets a bit short winded for an impact, but does fine otherwise. I'd replace it tomorrow, if I had to.
