Gas Can Repair

I suppose a gas can qualifies as a tool for holding and dispensing gas, and I wasn't sure where else to put this...

Anyway, a recent thread about leaking "safety" gas can rage got me appreciating my old metal can. Only problem with it is it leaks, and I haven't been able to find replacement parts. It is apparently OK to spill gas all over from a leaking vintage spout, but illegal to manufacture replacement parts to stop said spout from leaking :eyecrazy:

It's an old Eagle "The Gasser" M-5 and despite being a bit rough around the edges is in good shape and holds gas.

The spout is a strange 2 piece design and to be honest, it could just be leaking because it's missing gaskets or not put together correctly. The plastic tube is not torn. Does anybody know anything about this can, where I can get a replacement (quick searching seems to indicate Eagle does not make parts for it) or universal fit for it? It's a nice big can, seems a waste to think about having to buy a new one.

Even the fill/vent cap looks like it's been rigged, there's a stainless bolt with a locknut on it to seal it tight.

Get rid of the spout and use a funnel. If it is the caps that leak, buy a cork gasket sheet from a auto parts store and make a new gasket/seal. Another option is to watch e-bay for a new spout.

Or buy a new metal Eagle can.

Parts...elderly gas cans of all sorts, often with no problems whatever, are among the commonest objects out on the curb for the garbage truck during spring cleanups.
You will usually find then right next to last year's lawnmower, which generally needs 5 minutes work to get it running...
I have found everything from 1943 dated USMC stamped jerry cans to plastic junk.
Also found a couple of WWII dated broad arrow stamped british jerry cans...how in hell did THEY get here?
Old metal ones like yours are common trash...for some reason the owners want nice new plastic ones with bizarre EPA nozzles and less molding quality than what their coffee grounds came in.
