Gas engine to electric motor size question

Looking to change out one of my gas engine powered air compressors to electric motor power.

Have a 5 HP gas engine air compressor that I need to switch to electric and need to know what size electric motor to use. Thinking a 3 HP electric motor will do the job?

Thanks for any info as to correct pulley size, etc. if needed also.

Probably gonna want to stay with same same hp no matter what engine you use. Your best reference will be to find out what the compressor pump needs hp wise and rpm wise to operate properly.

Above are a couple of threads on the process. Bottom line is that you need to know the compressor head specs and they will tell you what motor you will need to turn it at a RPM the compressor is usable at. A lot of compressor pumps have a range of RPM's that require a corresponding range on motor horsepower's. Due the the torque curve differences between a gas engine and an electric motor direct HP ratings are not applicable here.

lg
no neat sig line
