I am running about 10 ft of black pipe from a 100lb propane tank to a gararge heater and needed to know whats best for using on threads of black pipe , teflon tape or is there a special tape for this or pipe dope? also would it be a bad ideia to run the pipe down a extierior wall inside the gararge and out and then close wall in with sheetrock with pipe in wall?

Mailman everybody has their preferance for what they use on pipe threads . Myself I prefer pipe dope with teflon which you could actully pick up at Homie desperate. Running the pipe inside the wall is Ok as long as you leak test it before you put up the drywall.

I used pipe dope. Dont remember the actual brand. Its a white paste. I think it was around $10 for a small can (didnt want to go too cheap on something so important) Easy to find in HD/Lowes, etc..

I would say if they mix back up ok they should be ok . Pipe dope isnt so much a sealant as it is a lubricant to help get the pipe fittings together tighter thus actually sealing them. Products such as Key-tite are sealants and will actually get hard as they setup Pipe dope never really hardens .
