Gas logs (manual override?)

With the impending ice storm here in eastern NC I'd like to know if there is a way to manually override the gas logs I have in my fire place. Right now there is a switch for the gas valve and another for the blower fan. In the case of a power outtage, is there a way to open the gas valve manually?

I think it depends on the model. Some require batteries to run that way.

My Dad's logs have a battery powered actuator and remote. No power required. You may only need power for the fan??

My gas log has a switch under it to manually torn on the log without power. Actually using it right now as my power has been out for a few hours. If you have a standing pilot light model you probably have a switch inside it as well. If you have one with electronic ignition without a standing pilot light your out of luck.
