Hello. I have some questions for someone. I have put together a large gas powered air compressor (large to me anyways) using a rebuilt Saylor Beall 705 compressor pump (Splash lubed, no head unloaders) and a harbor freight "predator" 420cc engine plus a 120-ish gallon tank and the necessary plumbing and such. I have a load genie constant run unloader and a conrader bullwhip throttle control.
Everything seems to be working fine (except the bullwhip wont pull the engine back to full throttle, it only goes to maybe 75% throttle, but I think that is due to overtightening the throttle cable clamp) but I am curious about the built in unloader that the 705 pump has in it. I don't have it hooked up to anything, but it does seem to be working fine as far as I can tell.
The question is, is it necessary to connect the pumps own unloader to anything? Is it possible that the compressor may not be running full speed internally since the unloader is currently not connected to anything?
I'm also curious if this pump could be converted to pressure lubrication, with an oil filter, and also if I can add the head unloaders to it so I dont need the constant run unloader?
I suppose it is perfectly fine as is, but if I can make it better, I'd sure like to.
