I have fixed pressure washers before by tinkering but this one has me stumped.
I put together a motor (Honda) from an Excell 2400psi with an equivalent-looking pump from an Excell 2500psi. Everything looks identical, I do not think that is the issue.
I verified the motor ran before swapping pumps, and verified the pump built pressure and worked with the unit it came off of before the other motor blew. I did swap the unloader valve with a used one in decent shape since the old one was bad.
New unit it assembled with those components, it is very hard to start and locks up and 10 seconds or less. I have the unloader valve adjusted way down to help start, but I don't think that can be the issue because I don't even have a hose connected. So water can freely flow through the pump. When it locks up, you cant turn the motor over with the starter anymore, so I have to turn it over manually with a bolt on the pump attached to the crank. When I do this, it seems to have excess pressure built up just needs to turn over a few times to relieve it.
Where can this pressure be building up without a hose even being attached and free flowing water?
