I've been contemplating a new approach to my sewer situation from the shop to the main drain line in the house. I'm going to trench out the basement slab, provided I can get the right pitch, and connect the 2 under the slab. Since I would be going through all this work, would it be possible to throw in a new gas line in the same trench as the sewer line? This would give me the ability to create a "laundry room" in the basement as well. I'd be using ABS for the sewer and HDPE for the gas line and then concrete over the trench.

I would imagine those 2 lines needs to be separated by some distance - but check your codes one that. I brought that up because I have a faint recollection of some sort of explosion having happened when nat gas got into a sewer and the concentration of the gasses made a boom.
