Gas water heater help

Friend of mine has a gas water heater that quit working... The pilot light won't stay on, and now won't even light. They changed the thermo couple twice thinking it may have been a bad one. No go.
It will light but won't stay on. Any ideas on what to look at next. Gas tank was just refilled...

Check and make sure it's getting to the pilot,possibly a new gas valve if the rest of the heater looks solid.

If you have a thermocouple, replace water heater. That's old old.

They just got it checked out... The whole thing is shot. Has to be replaced.
